More buildings like the Main Plaza incorporating elements of art deco could be a good compromise between aesthetics and business interests imo.

Also for tourism leisure; hotels, restaurants, shops.

These buildings i'm talking about: post war architecture. Those will eventually be torn down for more modern buildings, but instead should be replaced with old, art deco style buildings.

How about some nice video documentation about Frankfurt's old town reconstruction first?

The project could beat Dresden`s project!

Since pictures are a sparse here some other info:
Newly builds are going to be
Markt 40, called "Zu den drei Roemern"

Markt 38 called "Stadt Mailand" because the owners had business in Milano
It is a newbuild

It is in Frankfurt tradition, but could be subject to change

The next is new as well, Markt 36. In Germany are even numbers on one side of the street, the uneven always on the other. called before building numbers where given "Goldenes Haupt"

The other street

Next is new build Markt 34 called "Alter Burggraf" very traditional design wanted by it`s owners. Architect is from Mailand, Italy. Three condos, one business. Has a inner court.

Hello! The owners of some plots surprise by adding more re-construction than planned originally. Sometimes insides, sometimes out. This original monument, the "Cider drinker" (Cider - Apple wine) was waiting in a basement for the past 75Years.
Now it has been put back at its original location. I also learned, that two houses are getting the original owner families!

Here for better oversight, for what buildings are planed. Stadt Haus down right corner is also part of the project. the main hall "hovers" over the exposed Roman Empire founding walls and has a Golden roof! cool.

The Stadthaus complex. Owned by the city. The building on the corner will get a tenant.

For meetings. The room hovers like a hovercraft over the 2000 year old ruins. Thru the glass the Dom [cathedral] is to be seen where German Emperors where coroneted. Room will be used by government but also rented out private

The backstreet

We will continue with "Markt 32 or before numbers and street names where given the building was called Goldene Schachtel"

The other streetfront

It shares the inner court with its neighbor

The next building could be changed and was nicknamed doghouse. Markt 30 "ALtes Kaufhaus"

The other street side. The portal and first floor survived the war and is original

The next is a re-construction. Name and address is Markt 28 or "Wuerz garten" Because it`s owners used to dry and repack spices in the garden. So the garden smelled always like spices

Next is Markt 26 or "Schlegel" Reconstruction. Simple Baroque or Classism

And here we are at the Chicken Market. Four out of six streets rebuild arrive or go of this Chicken Market

The next is a re-construction. Markt 24 or "Eichhorn" No idea, but an Eichhorn is in Germany a kind of squirrel. Cool. The Squirrel House. Maybe its owner had a little squirrel in his pants? Kind of known by the girls?

The next rebuild is Markt 22 or "Goldene Schere" translates into golden scissors. Maybe the store was dealing with fabrics. Or there where tailors? Scissor makers? Good money in that, too. Explains the color of the build.

We now move into the Street "Hinter den Laemchen"

The already shown backsides of Markt 30 "Altes Kaufhaus" aka "The old Store" next "Goldene Schachtel" alias " Golden Box" " Alter Burggraf" and the others " Goldenes Haupt" and "Stadt Mailand" before we arrive by the house "Zu den drei Roemern"

Altes Kaufhaus

Next the Golden Box. no idea where the name come from. Maybe the made packaging?
Or the lady dressed in nice and chick clothing all the time and this is a cheeky nickname?

next is Alter Burggraf. An aristocratic title. There are talks to use timberframe for this newly build

Goldenes Haupt or Golden Head

And last but not least the Stadt Mailand. Pretty sure people from the city of Milano will like the name after their city. Maybe the owner had business connections to Milano? Would not surprise me. Frankfurt almost made it German capital

We have arrived by "den drei Roemern" To the three Romans. The square is called To the Romans because during the Roman times the town become known or founded. Most inhabitants where German back then, but part of the Roman Empire

Let us turn around and start with the other side of the street "Hinter dem Laemmchen" This street will be a better one!

"Hinter dem Laemmchen 8" Name was "Klein Nuernberg" Maybe little Nuernbergs owners had family from there. Ore business connections? Complete rebuild

Renaissance 500 Years old

The next is "Goldenes Laemmchen" The street is called after this court and building: "little golden Lamb" That is the House and "Behind the little Lamb" the name of the street. The street is a backstreet, that is why it was called "behind". The inner court will be rebuild, too. Fantastic but very large project!

Inner court

Next is "Alter Esslinger" Hinter dem Laemmchen 4

The next build was called just "Esslinger" not like the neighbor "Alter Esslinger" Maybe the young folks lived in this one? Corner building. Complete rebuild. Address "Hinter dem Laemmchen 2" The building is very, very old (700 Years) but was remodeled by its owners several times. Its appearance turned from Gothic to Baroque and the latest Baroque/ Classism. Germanys superstar Goethe lived here 1755-56 as tenant, while his own house was remodeled nearby.

Out of interest, how much does it cost to re-build one of these buildings, or how much is the whole city centre scheme costing?

Next we will take a look at reconstruction of the Markt 20. The original name "Zur Flechte"

Timberframe plastered over. I like the blue color

On the left is the other house I introduced

In the year 1877 a bakery moved in. The house "Esslinger" on the right, ours on the left. The chicken market behind. The build is original gothic and was remodeled around 1750 into what we can see.

Original like medieval. insolation will be added inside. Toward the exterior solid Klinker brick

Goldene Waage again

Many people dislike the concrete. Concrete has the tendency for not lasting as long as the original stone Columns. The engineer insisted

The seem in the concrete is where anker go in to anker the stone solid with behind. The concrete is not needed for weight

Dom Roemer Frankfurt, thanks!
