It says cities, but might of course be referring to capitals. I have seen plenty of studies and they all seem to rank both the Nordic capitals and London close to the top.

The first one is from the western harbour depicting many different projects. They are all part of the Jätkäsaari master plan though. The second one is of Allas Sea Pool which opened recently (see previous page). In the last pic you can see the crane for the Kasarmitori projects which like so many other projects gets no attention in this thread. You can also see the renovation of the Palace Hotel.

Nice shots!

Good set of recently taken pictures from the West Harbor development. Often referred to as Jätkäsaari around here.

The master plan for Finnoo - a district located some 13 km from the city centre - is moving forward. The area will get a metro station and a shopping mall as well as several towers up to 26fl high. When completed the area will be home to some 3000 people.

The Guggenheim is one the agenda again. This never-ending story seems to be leaning towards Helsinki getting the museum despite quite strong popular opposition to the museum. The project, however, has a powerful group of lobbyist behind itself and has gained support among many politicians.

They have somehow found 66.4 million euros of private funding...Still short of the 130 million estimated cost though.

I'd rather have this than the current sad parking lot.

Wow, that's amazing. When I heard the first time of the idea to build a Guggenheim Musuem on that site... well. Big surpris now. Respecting the surrounding of the harbour and won't be a dominating building - but anyway an architectural statement

I support the Guggenheim museum just because of the building - I don't really like the concept. However, if this project is torpedoed we will have ten years of endless discussions and then finally something far inferior will get built. At least now we're getting a great building (owned by the city) which can eventually be used for something else as well.

And I think this Guggenheim building is actually just plain boring. Compare it to Guggenheim in Bilbao for example and this is not half way as intresting. If they really build a magnificient and somewhat unique building it's a different story. This is not it.

Probably the only good one out of the proposals:

Happy New Year from Helsinki!

2017 is a special year for Finland as it marks 100 years of Finnish independence. The beginning of the new year was therefore given a celebratory opening by Darude

The winner of the above mentioned hotel competition has been picked. A glass building with a facade that changes colour depending on occupancy.

Only small changes. Tall bit now 84 meters. Facade made of prefab concrete elements...So, similar to what Skanska is currently scraping together next door. Oh well.
