Indeed!

Luckily, not everyone on this pale blue dot we live on forgot about his cultural roots and what makes a great manmade place.

How can you even say that when 99% of all North American housing are soulless faux-classical eyesores built around postmodernist strip mall developments?

Yeah... And modern homes need to be changed.

Modern homes should be more inspired by vernacular architecture (otherwise there are characterless IMO) but at the same time not become neo historic kitschy clones ... It should to be balanced between modern design (not souless boxes) and tradition.

Here's a traditional Korean house complex

And here's a great building by IROJE KMH architects in South Korea

That's great modern architecture for homes !

I don't know. Looks rather messy, but it's far better than the kitschy suburbs.

I and many others prefer clean lines and nice open spaces, and simple, easy-on-the-eye forms. It's hard to go wrong with these.

And personally I think that those who call them soulless don't understand modern architecture or how beauty is held through simplicity. They are more than just "boxes."

Bread Street Estates - Philadelphia

Quote:
A large surface parking lot will soon see eight luxury townhomes — ah hem — rise near the corner of Race and Bread Streets in Old City. Just up the street from the Race Street Cafe and directly next to Paddy's Old City Pub, the lot at 230 Race Street will house four-story units designed by Ambit Architecture ranging from $800k up to $1.2m in price. Each four bed, three and a half bath home will have a garage, with two of the units having a two-car garage. The official website also mentions "extra large balconies" in the package.

Very Louis Kahn!

Israel | Futuristic Mansion

When building cutting edge, I prefer something outrageous.

Like this futuristic biomorphism mansion by Ephraim-Henry Pavie in Israel:
