At least it's very likely. nyc would be my personal vote, though it's very unlikely.
And moscow and london? I just can't imagine such a tower there

To show the magnitude of a structure 1600m tall, I did a quick render of how it would look in Toronto, Canada..

Keep in mind, that tower to the left (CN Tower) is 553m tall...... this new tower is just... well, all I can say is that "massive" is an understatement.

india tower
however i think a tower with that size would not be that wide, just either a very streched building or a building consisting of more than one building like nakheel tower was or giant atrium, otherwise there would be many windowless rooms

Yeah I was thinking that it's too wide too.. but whatever.. and yeah india tower is a ******* gem - best design for a super/hypertall in the last 10 years, regardless if they're going to finish the project or not (I believe it's on hold since 2011).

@KillerZavatar
I'd imagine a mile high tower would have to be mixed use to be economically plausible, with offices and other facilities occupying the base where there are large windowless areas.

@Xaevus
Fantastic! It's one thing to just imagine what a mile high tower will be like, but to see it dominate like that is awesome.

BTW, could you do one for NYC and Shanghai, please?

Sure! Here are 2 of NEW YORK:

In the photo above, Lower Manhattan is in the centre, and middtown on the right. Still blows my mind. Looks like Dubai or something.

Shanghai will come tomorrow, say tuned!

To clarify, I'm hitting the 'like' button because they're very impressive render/photoshop jobs. But I think that such a thing just destroys the skyline.

...now maybe if it were surrounded by a couple 2000-4000 footers.

I think Shanghai and NYC probably fits with this tower the best. Don't think London needs a Supertall to make it any more famous, and I don't even know why Moscow is on the list. Many bigger cities are bigger than Moscow.

I think that's way over the top.

Maybe if a tapering design like that were about twice the total height of 1WTC, it would look alright in that general area. The Prince should probably think seriously about scaling it down to around that if NYC ends up being his choice. It's one thing to have a super dominating tower in Dubai or Jeddah compared to the closest surrounding buildings, as those are a different style of city. Let's try to keep the NYC skyline in decent proportions.

Well if they first build a few megatalls and a few hypertalls then I could imagine this, but with one 400m building (the roof high, I do not think that the spire is balancing something) it will look totally out of place in any city. The only two options are to build it in a city without a skyline or a little and high skyline --->Moscow, Berlin, St.Petersburg, Shanghai or to build a cluster around it with a few hyper and megatalls to balance it. Only my opinion.

Yeah, I much prefer the tallest buildings to not be too much taller than their closest neighbors, be in the middle of the cluster, and the other buildings get tastefully shorter as they fan out from there.

If he's looking to throw real estate investment cash around, the Saudi Prince should also consider either a proposal to financially back 2WTC's construction, or maybe even try to buy out Silverstein in order to get it built. I wouldn't even mind seeing 2WTC made somewhat taller than currently planned, assuming the foundation already built can handle that.

I just can't picture any building along the general proportions of the one in Xaevus's images looking anything other than obscene anywhere in London. London's existing skyscraper clusters aren't dense, and just aren't even remotely close to tall enough to try and compliment it in any way. I mean, it would dominate the Shard height wise by more than a factor of 5. It would make London look utterly ridiculous.

I somewhat agree. Also London would never allow a design this large to be built. London's airspace is the busiest in the world and a tower like this might disrupt that. I can see a tower like this being built in London in 50 years time. But not now - no way.

London's existing skyscraper compliment the environment - the old with the new. Each and every tower is excellent in design and do not focus purely on height.

If the Saudi prince wants to invest money in London - help fund the Pinnacle! Or built another 1000+ tower to challenge the Shard's title.

In all honesty... I cannot see this being built. Anywhere. Not for a few years. Probably in the NEXT Big financial crisis haha.
