I'll two small stations, I being to during my travel. I noticed for the non-major stations, they tend to follow a sort of standard layout and design with some minor tweaks.

In the non-High speed rail, some stations has being rebuilt and enlarged. Such as...

Old Wuchang Rail station (Wuhan non-HSR)

New Wuchang Rail Station

Original Dazhimen Station (Built 1903)

New Hankou Station (Built 1991)

New New Hankou Station (Built 2006) Personally I think it's a waste building this one, since the existing station is not even 20 years old, and wuhan already have a Rail station at Wuchang, and a HSR station under construction at the time as well.

You might be right again once Fengtai is ready

Although I can't really imagine cutting all HSR service from Beijing West... what station will the Urumqi HST leave from in the future?

Most non-HSR stations in major Cities can service D trains. (200km/hr, 250 km/hr before slowdown.) So you count D trains as HSR, then China actually have many, many existing HSR station in heart of major cities in additional the brand new grand HSR station built just outside of the city.

For example even the the aging Changsha Railway Staion, built in 1977, can service D trains on the aging platforms.

However, all G trains on the Beijing-Guangzhuo line goes to the New Changsha South HSR station. The real HSR station of Changsha.

Another one of China's "Mixed use stations", Qiaodao Station. The design of this station different from most Chinese station by lack of a great hall, instead it has separate smaller waiting halls in separate entrances in three sides, going to the platforms in the center of the station connected by skybridges.

The old Qingdao Station

New Staion

The Halls are quite small by Chinese standard,

New CRH train right next to a old "green" trains

CRH train pull into station

Indeed, here is the full history.

The 1912 station is a platform rather than a station. Long gone...

A larger station was built for the Guangzhou-Hankou railway, in 1936. This station was destroyed during the heroic battles of Changsha in WII. 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th

A new station was constructed after the war, and 1973 was dangerously crowded...

and a station was built in its place. seen here complete with cultural revolution slogans. The station was approved in 1973, and commission in 1977. There many controversy in the station's design due to politics of the culture revolution, starting with fall of Lin Biao..
