thank bloomberg Manhattan still has midtown. My excitement for the future of downtown's skyline has been severely crippled with the release of new renderings for Towers 2 and 3 of the WTC. Good news : 2 wtc should be completed by 2021. Bad news : it's become this leaning, cantilevering, flat roofed POS. Also, 3 WTC seems to have had its iconic spires chopped - though its height remains the same for now.

This is just mind blowing. If Shenzhen continues to grow at this rate until 2025, I have no doubt that it will be in the top 3 of skylines in the world:

Shenzhen 1980:

Shenzhen 2015:

Um.. it is 2015, and China is not yet the number 1 superpower.

It probably is the skyscraper superpower though and will continue to be so, trailed distantly by the USA and UAE.

2013 - 10,630,000 people

that mean 138.83% every year... If Shenzhen continues to grow at this rate until 2025 it will have around 177 million people.

"The Look" of a skyline is subjective, but if we only consider "pure numbers" by 2025 it could become No.1 skyline in the world, leading at buildings over 100m and 200m, and decent amount of +300m buildings. But it will never have too much density, because it was planed like that from the start, with wide avenues and huge parks, also some low rise areas.

But for sure it will be a fierce battle with Shanghai for third place, don't think any of them will surpass New York and Hong Kong by 2025.

But even if density will never be the strong point, from the right angles, it will really look like an endless sea of skyscrapers.

By numbers I doubt shenzhen, nor new york can catch up on Dubai until 2025. But in long term these much bigger cities seem to have more way to grow upwards.

Number of what ? Supertalls? they don't make a skyline... actually the swarm of 150-300m buildings make a impressive skyline. And on that category, Dubai is and will remain way behind. Reason why Dubai is "only" at 4th place in my preference today, is the lack of "mass" in spite of very tall buildings. SZ Road have basically one row of skyscrapers on each side of the road, downtown around BK.. well is impressive because of BK, but the tower itself totally dwarf everything around, making all the supertalls, look supertall only on paper, they look average height at best. (is just like having several guys 1,90-1,95m that are really tall in normal circumstances, but put them next to 2.29m Ming Yao, and they will actually average at best.)

Here is with his wife, and she's 1.90m with spires high heels.

Almost look like a midget next to him, but probably would dwarf most SSC members.

Neat video depicting Toronto's growing density. This could be the reality just a few years from now.

Ok I might be biased because I've been living in Shenzhen for many years. But honestly how Shenzhen can't be in the top 5 ?

The older I become, the less intrigued I get with the highrise. I still love highrise architecture but nothing beats the old curiosity of the medieval streets of European cities like Amsterdam, Brussels, Antwerp, Munich etc etc.

Chicago deserves some more attention here. The city's development may seem stagant next to NYC, but there are multiple 200m+ and a definite supertall in the works

Best Skylines by 2025

625 is dead unfortunately.

But there is a replacement.

http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/show...5764&page=1466

At this point I would call this a maybe.

Edit: Here's a full rundown on what's going on in Chicago. http://forum.skyscraperpage.com/showthread.php?t=159437

Yes, but we are talking about skylines here, not architecture in general.

And as skylines go, we want more... and we want taller...

Dubai really had a chance to expand that thin sheikh zayed road cluster, and make one massive skyline, but I think is just a thing of the past.

I doubt the "good old days" will come back very soon, and even in 2025, we will still have that thin cluster of skyscrapers along sheikh zayed road.
