Undisputed #1 when those are all complete. Right now, I still give Hong Kong the Crown.

As it stands - numbers of 200m-300m buildings completed and u/c

Shenzhen 157
Dubai 81
New York 80
Kuala Lumpur 64
Jakarta 58
Manila 57
Tokyo 32
Singapore 30
Chicago, Nanning, Panama City 27
Toronto 23
Busan, Hangzhou, Seoul, Xiamen 18

In terms of supertalls

Dubai has 18 built, and 13 u/c

Shenzhen has 5 built and 13 u/c.

NYC has 7 built and 9 u/c

My answer would therefore by Dubai in terms of scale, or Shenzhen if the approved ones (that haven't started construction yet) get going.

*^please update these figures if there are more.

Bangkok is just off the list - it has 11 built and 5 u/c of 200-300m. For supertalls it's got 2 built and 2 u/c

Shenzhen is huge and it's incredible how quickly they built a mega city from nothing in like 30 years, but do you think it is the best Chinese skyline?.

I think Hong Kong is the better skyline, and it was my number one until recently, but guangzhou is now my favourite skyline in China, with Hong Kong pushed into number two, then its shanghai in third and Shenzhen in fourth. Fifth place could go to a number of different cities, like tianjin, wuhan, chongqing, nanjing etc.
I'd be interested to know what your top 5 Chinese skylines are?

Yeah, NYC is going to be mind-blowing in a few years (as if it isn't already). Hong Kong will always have a special place, because of its uniquely scenic surroundings, but I am a little saddened to see how far it will fall on the list of biggest skylines.

And now... good freaking gravy. Just look again at those NYC renders -- if Shenzhen actually builds out anywhere close to that 157 numbers, it'll have nearly twice as many tall buildings. That's absolutely absurd!

If anyone is working on a Google Earth buildout of Shenzhen's proposed and u/c towers similar to that CityRealty NYC render, I am dying to see it.

Given that SZ already has a ton of reasonably tall infill, and sprawls in every direction, it should easily take the crown for sheer magnitude.

For my money, it will probably be NYC and SZ duking it out for no. 1, with KL, Dubai and Shanghai rounding out the top-5 in some order. After that, it's going to be an absolute bloodbath, with ASEAN upstarts (Bangkok, Jakarta, etc.), old standbys (Toronto, HK and Chicago), and Chinese mega-projects (Guangzhou, Wuhan, etc.) all making strong claims as top-10 skylines. At that point, it will really be a matter of taste and style.

The list isn't updated. Should be 10 buildings 200-300m+ u/c right now and 16 buildings u/c at the end of the year.

Best Skylines by 2025

Dubai will almost have a total of 50 Supertalls (including 4 megatalls) by 2025 .. there is no city that can come near that any time soon so my vote goes to Dubai! The following list actually is missing 6 more supertalls and 1 megatall happening now in Dubai.

That's how I see it too. As much as I like New York, Shenzhen looks like it will be #1 soon.

Spots 7-20 will be too close to call and will come down to personal preference. There might not be much separating a #7 from a #20. I'd add Melbourne and Mumbai to that group. They're off many people's radar but they have a huge inventory of projects coming down the pipe.

My Top 6 in 2025
1. Shenzhen
2. New York
3. Dubai
4. Shanghai
5. Kuala Lumpur
6. Hong Kong

#7 through #20 Too Close to Call (In no order)

Jakarta, Bangkok, Manila, Melbourne, Tokyo, Seoul, Guangzhou, Beijing, Tianjin, Chongqing, Nanjing, Mumbai, Chicago, Toronto

I think Singapore and Panama City will get bounced. Skylines like Mexico City, Abu Dhabi, Riyadh, Istanbul, Moscow, and London might eventually make a top 20 but will need more time.

Shenzhen Nanshan district (for those who're confused, the above picture is like Manhattan and the picture below is of Brooklyn, separate boroughs in the city)

Its pretty impossible to capture all of Shezhen's skyline in one shot. This one misses out a few clusters, but does better. You can just make out the new towers along the coast.
