This advance doesn't only go for NY, also for other cities that are in the top skyline rankings today.
I think by 2025 and even by 2050 NY will still have the top skyline, followed by in no particular order Chicago, Shenzen, Ghoungzou, Hongkong, maybe Shanghai if it starts replacing older and lower apartment buildings.
Shenzhen will overtake Chicago within 2/3 years. Futian CBD is already as big as downtown Chicago. After 10 more years there will be several individual skylines in Shenzhen, each as big as current Chicago skyline. Only New York will be ahead of Shenzhen by 2030 because of density.

Yes it will look amazing but just missed my top 20. It's only an educated guess though and 12 years is a long way off. Moscow could be in the mix.

Crane is on site at 190m Scapal in London also Western Europeans tallest residential tower in Canary Wharf has also been brought back to life @ 237m (75 storeys) depending on how the competition does. 4 - 200m+ residential towers could be rising in Canary Wharf next year.

Diamond Tower 218m (58 storeys)

South Quay Plaza - 80 storeys

75 Storeys - (239m)

What Torontos skyline could look like in 2020, yet alone 2025:

Blue = construction
yellow = condo in pre-construction sales
red = proposed

with just projects currently under construction:

Youre delusional if you think all those TO proposals are going to be built.

We'll see. 95% of Toronto proposals over the last 7 years ended up built. What has changed is that the market has slowed so the current inventory of proposals will take longer to go from proposal to construction. It's not like demand has evaporated. Toronto still sees 13,000+ units sold/year and proposals are still moving to shovels in the ground.

13,000 units would represent roughly 30 big condo towers worth of demand. It shouldn't take more than 2 years to clear up the inventory considering many of these proposals have lots of sales commitments already.

Even if the proposals on the table get built, Toronto would still have a long way to go to match the current scale of NYC.

Number of 100m+ Buildings
New York 691
Toronto 168
Toronto (including U/C) 237
Toronto (including U/C and proposals) 363

Toronto's core might end up feeling like Manhattan in 5-10 years, but Manhattan would be double the size in terms of geographic footprint.

Toronto will match NYC skyline when it becomes the commercial capital of the world.

That's not a pre-requisite. There are a number of skylines around the world almost as big, and set to get larger than NYC over the next 10-20 years. None of them can lay claim to being the commercial capital of the world. Toronto's skyline may never get as large as Manhattan's, but Toronto is certainly doing everything it can to reach its potential.
