I dunno. I think Mumbai might come out of nowhere and crack the top 10 by 2025. Jakarta, Manila, and Toronto all have a shot, but might fall just short.

To be able to be in top 10, a dense city must have water scenery (river, sea, etc), mountain/hills and supertalls.

A city without these criteria can forget being in the top 10 in 2025. This is one of the reason why dubai build huge ma made lake in order to boost the skyline presence

I only count the built form when evaluating a skyline; never mountains, water, etc. Skyline and setting are 2 independent separate things, afaic.

I agree but if the Chicago Spire is built it will make a huge difference.

There are a couple 150-250 meter projects underway there and the tallest wolf point tower could reach 300 meters. It's not a lot but the skyline is already so impressive it probably doesn't need too much to stay in the top 10.

There are rumors of other projects in Chicago but none of them are very far along.

Nicer looking buildings than what's going up in Dubai. How sustainable is making the desert bloom though? Where does the water come from?

Agreed. Chicago Spire will be huge, if everything continues going as planned with that. Chicago has 3 or 4 supertalls proposed. There's Wolf Point, the 300m post office one, 625 West Monroe, the Jean Gang one, and the Spire. Most of them are looking like a pretty sure deal due to the people behind them. It also has maybe a dozen in the 200-300m, about to start construction on most. There's a few things happening right now that could start a major boom, and that's how a lot of Chicagoans are starting to talk.

All of that said, Chicago still needs to pick up its pace, but if a boom really is about to happen, there will be a lot of major development. There's talk of the condo and office market taking over again

That's his criteria. All that extraneous stuff has nothing to do with the skyline itself.

If a skyline to me without sea/river, it look less appealing to me. U see all those great skylines like new york, shanghai and hk are located along the river/sea

That may be so, but the skyline is a component of one's overall impression. Skyline and setting are 2 entirely different things.

Skyline + Setting = Overall impression.

Vancouver gets a 7/10 for skyline + 10/10 for setting so I'd give it an overall impression of 8.5/10.

Yes, I noticed that too. That's why I moved it to this thread.
