The US-based outfit, which has delivered the current three tallest towers in the world - including the Burj Khalifa - won the tender from DMCC, the Government of Dubai Authority.

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman, DMCC, said: “By appointing experienced project managers such as Turner we are laying strong foundations for delivering the Burj 2020 District which will further drive sustainable growth for Dubai.

“Turner has a strong track-record in managing and delivering large complex projects while at the same time embracing innovative ideas and new technologies.

"Together we will create the optimal environment for trade and enterprise with a world-class commercial district that brings together retail, residential, business and lifestyle services.”

Ali Odeh, chairman & CEO, Turner International Middle East, said: “Opportunities to work on world-class developments of this scale do not present themselves often and we are honoured to be a part of DMCC’s Burj 2020 District project. We are committed and ready to take the project to the next level by offering our project management services to the development of what will no doubt be a world class commercial district of the future.”

The appointment of Turner follows DMCC’s masterplan design competition announced in June 2014. The ground breaking for the Burj 2020 District is planned for 2015.

The development will also be home to the world’s tallest commercial tower, which was named Burj 2020 in November 2013 in honour of Dubai’s Expo 2020 win.

Still commercial, so the rumors don't seem to be true. hopefully with groundbreaking new year, they also plan to start the tower. The name of the tower at least suggests that a 2015 start would be needed

Was this masterplan design competition secret or do we have some concept renders or models from this mentioned company?

It doesn't work like that

It's not that we don't trust DMCC insiders, it's just that we don't trust forumers who claim to know DMCC insiders.

Check the New York threads for how many times some guys make up info an insider supposedly told them, which turns out to be bull almost every time.

The 'insider infos' we got for projects in Dubai were usually accurate, however we should always be critical with any kind of inoffical news and rumours.

The guy who said that is or leads the members association that manages one of the 80+ towers on the DMCC complex and he is always in contact with them for obvious reasons

Plus the idea that a developer would think about increasing the height and adding more units due to demand is not that far fetched

If they actually increase the height and push it over 800 meters, that means Dubai will have two 800m+ towers that could be captured in one photo

Did they say when they'll release renders of the tower?

We knew the building would be at least 660 meters high if not more. Now add a minimum of 50-60 floors of office or hotel space and we have a tower with at least 800-850 meters. Now all they have to do is put a tall spire, and they are well beyond 1000 meters in height.

The original design of Burj Khalifa was much shorter than what it is now. The ruler actually inspired Emaar to raise the height some more which could very easily be the case for Burj 2020.

I am not keeping any high hopes myself though. The height is already great as it is.

Yes, I don't want to be disappointed, because I expected that it will be 1000m+ tall.

That's not gonna happen, there are some 20 kilometers distance between them. The towers are just close enough to each other to be captured in one picture
