WOW! Am I the only one who bothered to read the article? AS+GG is the alleged designer with other supertalls being built! This is fantastic!!!!

According to sources close to the project the tower will be surrounded by five or six other towers that will make up the Burj 2020 district in the Jumeirah Lake Towers (JLT) area. It is understood that these towers could be up to 350m tall.
US-based Turner Construction International was appointed as the project manager for the development in 2014. The designer is understood to be US-based Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture. DMCC named the tower Burj 2020 in December 2013, following Dubai’s Expo 2020 win in late 2013.

^ Totally agree, I am so happy that Smith and Gil are the architects. This is going to be awesome. Most exciting project in Dubai especially considering 6 other towers are going up around it. I am more worried about the design than the height any thing over 1,800 feet is insanely high. I have complete faith in Smith and Gill. They are by far my favorite architects in the world. Tomorrow I plan on calling Smith and Gill and try to see what the projects status is. I will post the info I get on the forum.

Rose Rotana in SZR is steel, the top of Burj Khalifa is steel as well ... plus, we knew since the beginning that it would be a steel structure

Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill! My biggest fear was, that the design will be screwed, but a tower designed by AS + GG can' be a disappointment! I am really relieved now..
Plus we can expect supertalls around it! This development will be a new landmark for Dubai! I can't wait for it. I hope the district will extend in the direction of Nakheel Tower in future.

Adrian Smith and Gordon Gill win Dubai record-breaker

Published today

The Dubai 2020 tower will break the height record without the use of a spire, said Ahmed Bin Sulayem, executive chairman of the DMCC, the authority in charge of the project.

“We are not going to have a spire to get into the book of records. It will be a mega-high structure, floor wise,” he told Emirates 24/7 last year.

The top floor will contain a 360-degree viewing deck, he added.

But its exact height is not being disclosed because of the fierce competition that surrounds such projects.

The tower will stand in a new commercial district named Burj 2020 which is being masterplanned by architects WATG. Part of the UAE’s fastest-growing “free zone”, it will contain business, retail, residential, hotel and leisure uses.

Imagine if Adrian Smith just goes with the old proposal on Dubai 1 that was suppose to be downtown before.

I could fit inside the plot, notice there is no spire, this could be a metal skeleton frame, plenty of room for retail at the bottom part.

I hope they are not so dumb to make it less than 600m tall, just to beat the OWTC in height. Ping An will be the next tallest in the near future, so Burj 2020 should definitely be 600m+ tall to stay the tallest commercial tower in the world.

They sound confident that they want to break the record by quite a bit. I expect it to be over 650m. After all when burj Khalifa was built it broke the record by over 300m. Dubai does not play around

We might be spoilt here in the UAE when it comes to super-talls , but come on , a 500-700 meter commercial tower ? you can do better ! make it 850 !
