Well, they are saying they will be very careful on choosing the name ... but what alse remains, I just hope they don't call it 'unobtainium'

PS: Yes, Almas = Diamond. and Platinum Tower is build by a private developer, unlike Gold and Silver build by DMCC itself

World's largest commercial tower slated for Dubai - yet to be named

Published on August 05 - 2013

The executive chairman of Dubai Multi Commodities Centre, the free zone authority for Jumeirah Lake Towers, wants you to help name the recently announced tallest commercial building in the world.

In an exclusive interview with Kippreport, Ahmed Bin Sulayem says that considering the building will be an iconic global tower, and home to multinational corporations, he would much rather hear from the world community than have to "pay a hefty amount to a consultant".

"I'd be more interested in hearing what the real community has to say," he says, adding that the name can be suggested in any language - be it Arabic, English, Portuguese or Mandarin.

"People can participate on my personal twitter handle," adds Bin Sulayem (@ahmedbinsulayem), Executive Chairman of the UAE's fastest-growing free zone. "They can share their opinion on what the name should be, and if it clicks with what we have in mind, the winner will be rewarded with gold."

Those interested in chipping in their two cents can also communicate with the management through DMCC or Jumeirah Lake Towers' Twitter handles, he says, adding that his marketing team will be cooking up a campaign to promote this initiative.

According to Bin Sulayem, who currently sits in the Middle East's tallest commercial tower (Almas Tower), the DMCC free zone will be the country's largest free zone within a matter of weeks. Over the past four years, it has attracted 4,000 new companies and continues to attract roughly 200 new companies every month.

China has several 700m+ buildings in the pipeline. I doubt if this one will be the tallest.

As Gabriel said they think it may even be taller than burj so at the end of the day it may eventually end up the tallest for some time. Just imagine an 800m+ office tower Woof that would be something

Guys, I think, that it won't be profitable at all, to build such high tower. Commercial market is not so popular in Dubai as for example residential. Practically all offices in BK are empty...

Doesn't matter, the Burj's offices can be empty and this project still we be built.

Occupants? Economic feasibility? Skyscraper density? Meh, we are talking about Dubai here!

Yes, if this tower gets built, it will be great for us, in terms of architecture, skyline, etc. But it won't be that great for developer( owner)

This is a whole different location than BK. It's a free zone for starters, DMCC is running out of commercial space due to over whelming demand.

The initial post says 107,000 Sq m of total space in the business park, that has to be wrong if the tower itself is that tall unless that figure doesn't include the tower itself. That makes no sense. Perhaps they missed a '0'. Anyways, I doubt if this will be commercially viable considering the real demand for office space in an economy the size of Dubai. But then again I don't think anyone cares about that in this place!

I was wondering about that too. We have large complex with couple of buildings, large underground parking, and the tower u/c in Poland. The complex have 100 000Sq m of space total but the tower is "only" 200m tall so that 107 000sqm can't for the whole DMCC.

The 107,000 m² is probably the size of the business park itself and not the floorspace of all the buildings together that will make up the park. It's just a standard mistake by the author of the article.

Yes, that's the land surface allocated to the business park where this tower is proposed to be build,
