Looks like soil testing. This should've been done a long time ago...

Edit: They already did this over a year ago, no idea what they are doing now:

So,is this project approved or still proposed ?
I ask that because they are doing a soil testing.

Soil testing is done prior to foundation and piling design. So guess after test results they will come up with only foundations and later the structure design....!

I'm optimistic about Burj 2020, The Tower and Entisar Tower being built. Dubai One we'll see.

For UAE climate, it's a wrong design. Sloped surfaces get dirty in a matter of days there, not months. But it takes months to clean such tower. Practically, this design is doomed to be dirty all the time. It has no chance to be looking clean even once in a lifetime.

And especially in case if it gets such dark windows as proposed on the renders/models, it will be twice as terrible. Black makes the dust visible as a thick layer of dirt.

The solution is for Dubai to keep building and building until there's no more sand left in the entire Emirate.

They'd need a ten-fold population growth, but hey, I didn't say it was a short term solution.

I thought so 9 years ago, when I first came to Dubai. Given the amount of desert areas surrounding Dubai, it may take hundreds of years in order to reduce the amount of sand dust to 50% of the current amount.

On my only trip to Dubai, I was really surprised by the buildings along the rail line from the airport - so dusty (not sure why I didn't expect that). It's not something you see in all of the more glamorous pictures of the city. I bet window washing is a pretty steady business!

At a quite acute angle, you can see a very visible layer of dust even on the sloped sides of One WTC, even when you look at some videos of it that show the washing in action. When they partially clean it, there's a very noticeable difference between the dusty areas and the newly washed ones. It's a very common design mistake. Correcting this mistake at the early stages of design can bring numerous advantages. This is how it's done, on One WTC example: https://www.flickr.com/photos/100888...posted-public/

Don't need to do soil testing for villas so at least we can hope for towers.

more like Dubai 2030 But it's good to see stuff going on even if the Tower is a later phase.
