From the article:

Quote:
Bin Sulayem said the Burj 2020 will be built using steel, stating, "Any tower that goes above 80 floors cannot be cement and has to be a steel structure."
... what the hell? Concrete was used on Burj Dubai to a hight of ~580 meters or 156 floors

The guys heads the Commodities Exchange. Steel is a commodity, concrete isn't

The longer we have to wait, the more expectations we have and the more we would be disappointed, if the tower isn't so amazing..
But I'm optimistic and I think this tower will be unique and amazing!

well, we do know that it is over 660m and under 828m, we also know that it will not feature much of a spire or crown. i do not see too much room to get disappointed

Yes, but only the cladding suffice, to destroy the general view of the building. Or the shape looks cheap, that could also be.

DMCC will build the world’s tallest commercial tower in the world – the Burj 2020.

When the project was first planned, Bin Sulayem said he met with opposition.

Dubai already has four of the world’s tallest buildings across key specifications and segments.

Was there room for one more?

Also, the global impact of the 2008 financial crisis was still only in the recent past.

Seizing the day, Bin Sulayem’s designs and plans for the tower have set it apart from the tallest of the tall.

Besides the entire tower being dedicated to commercial space, it will have the world’s highest viewing deck and a 360 degrees view at that.

Now just a few months away from announcing detail designs and plans, Bin Sulayem says: “It is all going according to plan. We will soon announce the architect and reveal more details.”
