LONDON | 1 Commercial St | Aldgate | 84m | 21 fl | U/C

One Commercial Street is a symbol of the growing importance of the Aldgate area as an integral part of the City of London. Nearly eighty metres in height, it forms a dramatic pivotal point for the street scene below and will benefit from the ongoing regeneration of the Aldgate area transforming the neighbourhood, creating a dynamic and vibrant location in which to live, work and relax.

Aldgate East Tube station is directly accessible from underneath the building, and one of London’s most respected cultural institutions, Whitechapel Art Gallery, is just a block away, and is being given an attractive new setting.

i am a bit surprised by the fact that this kind of cheap looking tower even got permission to build in a vital location in the city.

The transition between office and residential was poorly done, the proportions of the building make it look so squat, the cladding is unbelievably cheap, the color pallet is atrocious, the balconies look cheap and flimsy, it's generally an atrociously executed project by a sub-standard firm.

I saw the unfinished eyesore every single day for years (I lived in the clock tower building on Leman Street, right beside the huge Goodman Fields development by the same developer) and honestly, I think the empty shell looked better than this. At least the empty shell gave hope of a decent building, this piece of garbage is going to be there for a 50+ years, especially considering how difficult it is to redevelop residential buildings (you have to buy everyone out).
