BAGHDAD | Dora Technical University | Pro

Dora Technical University

Student's Accomodation

Baghdad, Iraq

Client: Ministry of Higher Education and
Scientific Research
Size: 85,780 mē
Scope: Design

The project is located within Al Dora area south west Baghdad, adjacent to Al Masafi Street, The building mass was designed as one continuous element emerging from the ground, forming two main semi-public plazas, dedicated to the students and their social activities, and combines the building with the landscape. The terracing of the building "topography" can be seen as a compensation for the lack of open spaces and the high density, since those terraces will be used as roof gardens and platforms for various functions.

Besides its function, those terraces symbolize the wonders of ancient Mesopotamia, such as the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and the Ziggurats. The dynamism of the building is a reflection of the energy of the youth, and the progression of the learning process. Additionally, the building is weaved within the urban fabric, rather than being an imposed element.
