I now they don't want to build something big! BUT at least hire decent architects consultants!!!!

Even a small architectural firm in the uk would had come up with a better design!!!

But I hope that they are at least buiding the future in mind ! In terms of runway and cargo extension! ! Area wise this airport should be thr largest of the country!

I think that this is an old design, that was supposed to be made, that never got made... i also think that they will build the new airport, bigger then first planned. so my guess would be that the new renderings are not out yet... at least i hope so

New airports projects: CAA accused of making unauthorised payment of Rs 20.18 billion

The Auditor General of Pakistan has accused Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) of making unauthorised payment of Rs 20.18 billion to New Benazir Bhutto International Airport (NBBIA) Islamabad and New Gwadar International Airport without providing any details in Measurement Book. The Measurement Book is considered a highly important accounts record.

According to the audit report for financial year 2012-13, CAA made payments of Rs 20.18 billion, including Rs 19.93 billion to Project Director, for NBBIA Islamabad and Rs 246.51 million to Project Manager for New Gwadar International Airport, respectively, without providing details of the items in Measurement Books.

Audit maintains that veracity/authenticity of payment could not be verified due to non-maintenance of Measurement Books. The Authority adopted an irregular method of work measurement/record-keeping by dispensing with an approved and established method of permanent record-keeping for all public sector infrastructure works.

The Project authorities adopted a highly unreliable MS Excel-based record-keeping method in place of accounting and record-keeping forms approved by Auditor General of Pakistan and Finance Division. An "irregular decision" by the Project authorities also resulted in compromise of mandatory oversight and internal controls of 100 percent work done through certification by the Engineer Incharge and 10 percent test check by the Supervisory Engineer. The Authority has, by manipulating and compromising public interest, committed an act of grave negligence.

The CAA in its response stated that the works were in advanced stages and most of the items of foundations, steel and various services were buried, hence re-measurement was very difficult. The reply was found to be implausible because departure from rules on the plea of less staff and belated stage was not justified. Maintenance of permanent and authentic record, ie Measurement Books, is mandatory.

The matter was discussed in the Departmental Accounts Committee (DAC) meeting held on December 17-18, 2012, wherein the Committee conveyed displeasure on non-recording of Measurement Books. Audit informed the DAC that non-recording of measurements of the works on the format prescribed under the rules without approval of competent authority was an act of grave negligence on the part of project management and consultants.

Audit further stated that the project was divided into various packages and sub-contracts with multiple overlaps which impaired progress, due diligence and transparency. The DAC directed the Authority to record the Measurement Books and get it verified from Audit within two months and provide a complete project execution model to Audit. The compliance of DAC''s directives was not reported till finalisation of the audit report.

Land for international airport at Gwadar acquired, senate panel told
Land has been acquired for the construction of an international airport at Gwadar, the Senate's Sub-Committee on Finance was informed on Tuesday. An official of the Ministry of Defence briefed the Committee about the Gwadar airport. The committee decided to have another briefing next month on the issue.

It was informed that the government allocated Rs 600 million for this purpose in the current fiscal year while the total cost of the airport was estimated at Rs 7.6 billion. The committee proposed that the airport should be designed to accommodate future extensions. The meeting was informed that the Gwadar airport would have a runway with a length of around 10,000 feet and 150 feet width, enabling it to handle large aircraft and flights. The meeting was presided over by Senator Fateh Muhammad Hassni.

An official of Planning Commission stated that there was a need to update the airport's feasibility study because it was now five years old and the cost of the project might have been considerably increased. The committee stated that Gwadar's road, rail and air connectivity was critical for the economic development of the province and the country.

Senator Kulsoom Perveen observed that operationalisation of the Gwadar port would financially strengthen the province and decrease its dependence on the federal government.

Why this air port is not getting built .back in musharaf time there was attempt to build one of big size then ppp came in power and they decided to built rail station type of air port over 30 years time it makes me sick even reading about it . Gwadar should have been developed at fast track this would have replaced karachi city for people who come from differnet parts of country to earn their living d(job seekers) but there is no vision . Build big air port big high rises their let private sector put their industrial units have rail line connected to different parts of the country when people will come there u have reduced the pressure from karachi half of the killing from karachi will drop but we need leader who think on those lines
