wow, isn't that something. ....

And this WITHOUT the new T3. Just imagine in 2017 when T3 opens and a whole new slate of flights come onboard - could we double that 30M in 5 years?

Chengdu has (or had) 37M, so Chongqing is fast closing on CTU (again, without T3) as the #4 airport in China.

Actually, Chengdu is exceeding 42M this year, so the difference between the two airports will be nearly 10M this year, still a long way to go.

Actually Chongqing is only 9th. The list goes:

Beijing
Guangzhuo
Shanghai Pudong
Shanghai Hongqiao
Chengdu
Shenzhen
Kunming
Xi'an
Chongqing

Chengdu is a major connecting hub for Air China (it's #2 hub) and is THE primary hub for Sichuan Airlines. I'm certain that explains its healthy numbers.

Chongqing is not yet a major hub for any airline (it's just barely a focus city for Air China and China Southern), it is a secondary hub for Sichuan. Therefore, 30m mostly O&D pax IS impressive, total counts look to explode once hubs open and more intl comes next year with T3 in operation.

Look again, Chongqing passed Xian in 2014 (slightly by 4,000 pax), so wouldn't that make it 8th?

And, if you reread my original post I didn't say Chongqing was already #4, I said it is POISED to take it once T3 opens in 2017.

There is a parking building under construction in front of T3A, with an area of 0.2M square meters which can accommodate nearly 5000 private cars.

The latest satellite image of CKG in high resolution is available at http://www.tianditucq.com/map/index.html (Public Platform for Geographical Information of Chongqing Municipality, in Chinese)
(Data collected in September, 2015.)

You can browse the data by following the steps shown below:
1. Copy the Chinese words "江北国际机场" (meaning "Jiangbei International Airport") to the search box, then press ENTER key, and a list of results will appear.
2. Click the first result "重庆江北国际机场" (meaning "Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport").
3. Click the button "矢量" (meaning "Vector") on the right of tool box and a dropdown menu will show up, and then click the button "影像" (meaning "Satellite Image").
4. Enjoy the high-resolution image provided by Digital Globe.
