2 pieces of news about CKG T3A:

1. It will be commissioned on April 27, 2017, according to the official document. It was postponed due to the complexity of construction regarding the underground rail station.

2. Which airlines will move to T3A? Besides all the INTERNATIONAL / REGIONAL airlines, Air China (CA), China Eastern (MU), China Southern (CZ), Hainan Airlines (HU), Xiamen Airlines (MF) and their subsidiaries will operate their flights at T3A. More specially, T3A will also serve the INTERNATIONAL / REGIONAL flights operated by other domestic airlines.

nice, we will be arriving into CKG in August, too bad T3A wont be open yet.

But hopefully we can plan a trip next year to go through it. Any idea of the plan for T3B? I'd expect CKG would want to proceed with the full plan given the immense competition that's coming from it's more popular, little-sister, Chengdu.

The 5th phase of CKG's expansion is estimated to commence in 2018, including the fourth runway (4F, 3000m) and Terminal 3B (approx. 300,000 m^2).

So who remains at T1 and T2 exactly?

very nice!

with China Express into T1 and Sichuan and China West into T2; this will give those airlines PROPER HUB space for their operations.

Will Sichuan operate International out of T2? I hope so, because this would consolidate their operations and make CKG the only airport with a single terminal hub op for them.

If I look at the long-term pic with T3B included, it shows T2 (and assuming T1) as shuttered or otherwise not in ops. Is this the long-term plan after T3B opens?

T2 will not be serving international flights, so all the international flights will depart from and arrive in T3.

The rendering effect shown above highlights T3 and Ground Transport Center (GTC), and underplays other architectures like T2/T1. This doesn't mean they'll be abandoned.

I was reading that although Chongqing is glad that it's home base for some airlines, it's seeking to attract or start-up a marquee international airline (with one of the big 4) to achieve their "100 international destinations" target.

Both, apparently, at least that's what I think I read on CARNOC. Something along the lines about how Chongqing government wants 100 international air routes, and either trying to attract either CA, CZ, MU or HU to hub there, or to start-up an airline either on their own or with one of the big 4 to achieve that goal.

However, they also understand that Chongqingers are more price-sensitive than the Chengdu market, citing how Chengdu-Ko Samui has attracted full fare-paying customers on boutique carriers like Tibet Airlines, Juneyao Airlines and Bangkok Airways but Chongqing has to rely on low-cost charters like Lion Air's Chongqing-Manado, Chongqing-Bali service. Hence they are also thinking of attracting low-cost carriers.

I get the distinct impression that they don't think CZ will help them grow OQ into anything more than a feeder airline for 3U operations out of Shuangliu and Tianfu in future.
