hkskyline's 2012 in ANKARA, Turkey

I made a brief visit to Ankara while on the way back to Istanbul from Cappadocia. Here are some photos from my short visit :

Ataturk's Mausoleum was built between 1944 and 1953. Not only is this the resting place for Turkey's first president, it houses a museum of his personal artifacts, including vintage cars and gifts from visiting heads of state.

Ankara's Citadel dates from Byzantine times and dominates the city's northern hills.

About 100km south of Ankara is Lake Tuz, a saline lake covering some 1500 square km. It's very hard to find traces of water as a heavy layer of salt covers the top, making it possible for visitors to even walk on the lake.

Great set of fine pictures! I always wonder if Ankara is worth a visit. It's not half as beautiful and amazing as Istanbul. But I suppose if you're in the region, you can visit the capital for a day or two.

beautiful photos thanks. Ankara is very old city– contains many Byzantine and Roman ruins to explore. Celts, Romans, and other ancient civilizations left their mark upon the city; you can visit Roman Baths, Mosques, Byzantine temples.
