Station Aspern Nord

This is the northern of the two U2 stations of the Seestadt. To date it is still in the middle of nowhere but already operational and a transfer to some local busses connecting the hinterland to the subway.

Modul 1A:
Additionally to the U2 platform there is a regular rail platform under construction and with it an expansion of the existing rail corridor from non-electrified single track to electrified double track. By December 2018 S-Bahn service to Aspern Nord should commence and thereby establish a new and direct 25 min connection of the Seestadt to Wien Hauptbahnhof (Vienna's main station). In the mid-term we can hope for a 15 min frequency but maybe not in the first years.

The intercity connections will also be upgraded however and Aspern Nord is planned to become a stop of trains to Bratislava. The corridor east to Bratislava is finally being upgraded as well, but only after 2018. Modul 1 B will see the electification of the track down to the border, with the Slovakian railway having agreed to upgrade their part. In Austria the longest straight track of the entire country will finally be of somewhat respectable max speed as well with 160 km/h. This will be completed by 2023. By then Bratislava hlavna stanica (Bratislava main station) should be hopefully only a 30 min train ride away from Aspern Nord, with a train at least every hour, possibly more often. A final stage, Modul 2 of the upgrade will then see a continuous double track the whole way until 2030 but don't hold your breath.

The renderings are beautiful. However, in real life it looks like communism of the mid 70's.

Most of the buildings are nothing special, however I'd love to see the 70s communist new town with a quality of public space even remotely close to the one of the Seestadt. If 70s communist new towns looked like this (https://abload.de/img/dre1von1-20h7u4q.jpg, https://abload.de/img/20m7ud4.jpg), they must have been a really nice place to live in.

I am not sure which renderings you are talking about though. Except for the very early conceptual renderings, the constructed buildings resemble the visualisations quite closely. And the Seeparkquartier buildings rendered above will probably be realized pretty much like that as well.
