I like that, very futuristic looking! 950ft minimum is cool which will help broaden the skyline with height, judging by the render, it looks taller than 4WTC (even with taking into account of the distances each building is away from the camera).

I agree that it does seem a bit off with all the hard edged buildings, mostly the World Trade Centre complex, but the straight side is facing the World Trade Centre complex whereas the curve is away from it which helps!

The top heavy element will require some great engineering at that height especially! it's a yes from me

Looks like a Calla Lily. That said, the design is far more preferable to that comedic punchline they delivered a few months ago.

Another supertall next to the WTC would be amazing. Hopefully 950' is approx. or the top floor or something.

Not so nice. Tacky cry for attention a bit too close to the WTC complex...

I agree and the pic above shows why. I'm not really a fan of buildings that taper out towards the top. (but that is personal taste)

This seems to have received as many "hates it" as "loves it" but it's a vast improvement from the tacky top of the original design.... I think in execution it will look a LOT better than detractors think though it is more usual to see a tapering up rather than something of a widening. I think that relatively unique look couple with the other towers coming out downtown and a COMPLETED WTC complex will make a nice contrast in the skyline however instead of looking out of place, jarring, or "attention seeking".

it's easy to build iconic structures in cities where there are few icons.
If I were to visit certain cities building megatalls today I would have to do some research beforehand to find any other interesting places to go to.
regressing, NYC is not about "curvy" buildings. It's history is in structures which where built along street grids. To maximize the usefulness of a plot, developers built "boxy" Are the Chrysler building and Empire State building not nothing more than boxes with setbacks and fancy crowns? It's the same everywhere in the world. You can go with an extravagant eye-catcher but it won't be the most functional design, or you can build box-like and make the most with what you've got. Since NYC is a city which builds mostly by demand, the latter is the best choice for developers who wish to make their building more profitable

also, not aiming at anyone in particular, but here's a tip. if you call somebody "butthurt" you make yourself sound like an imbecile and it certainly wouldn't help your case if you were to argue that you're not a troll.

I agree with your premise that NY hasn't historically been about curvy buildings (and I generally find them an ill fit with the NY skyline). But here's a wrinkle to consider: from the standpoint of demand and profitability, these new towers with protruding cantilevers (101 Murray, 41 E. 22nd, 217 W. 57th) are actually more functional than a straight up box. By creating wider floor plates higher up, they're cashing in on the demand for large full floor apartments with outrageous views, while concentrating less mass on the less profitable lower floors. It's a convergence of market trends and building technology that, while it may take some time to get used to aesthetically, is very New York indeed.

Not a lot of curvy tall towers in Hong Kong either. The thing in common? Land costs. Developers have to max out the leasable envelope to recoup those enormous costs.

It's amazing how "looked down upon" it is when it's in front of One WTC.

its bound to happen when you're competing with a city icon. ESB in midtown, Brooklyn Bridge near the Seaport, etc...
