I'm okay with this news. I have mixed feelings about the top-heavy design, but they are basically alleviated by it being more in line with the Goldman Sachs/Brookfield Place plateau.

101 MURRAY UPDATE
First things first: The 62-story, 740-foot tower going up at 101 Murray—where the St. John’s University building is being demolished as we speak—is indeed being called 111 Murray. (Demolition should be done by spring.) The developers are Fisher Brothers and Witkoff, and the architect is Kohn Pedersen Fox (with David Rockwell contributing to the interiors)—but there’s no official rendering yet, so we don’t know if these are accurate. The slick rep from Fisher Brothers showed a slide (above) that indicated the footprint will be as described in DOB filings. At first he said that the non-building parts would be “public park,” but later he backed off of that, saying it hadn’t been decided whether the park would be public. And then he backed farther off, saying that they hadn’t determined whether, in a bid to get an increased floor area ratio (from 9, I think, to 12), they would include affordable housing or a public plaza. Those DOB filings, however, seems to be out of date in several ways: The rep said there would, in fact, be retail in the tower, but no parking in the building. The “pavilion” on the east side is a separate four-story building with retail on the ground floor and 111 Murray mechanicals above it (because after Sandy, new buildings on West Street won’t be putting mechanicals below grade). Good news for nearby residents: The foundation will be drilled caissons rather than driven piles. Bad news for all of us who regularly walk along Murray Street: The busy northern sidewalk will be closed to pedestrians for at least three years.

Bummer the height is going to be shaved so much. Maybe the design will also undergo significant revision.

66 floors, 857 ft. http://a810-bisweb.nyc.gov/bisweb/Jo...ssdocnumber=01

And it appears the design may be in perpetual change mode, like 80 South Street.

Glad the height actually will be over 100 ft higher than that report... still a shave but the tower will at 857ft is still substantial... taller than all the other residences going up now nearby except for 30 Park.
Hopefully if there's a redesign it will be revealed pretty soon though I was among those who really liked its widening top.

That permit is old, I think 740' is more accurate but we'll see.

God I hope this isn't what will be built:

It's much closer to that 740 ft. height...and much closer to Doha or Abu Dhabi too.

that would certainly be a disappointment architecturally.

Curbed needs a new editor. Lol.

Rest assured peeps, that is not the renderings for 111 Murray Street. Okay.

That is actually renderings for a project in Murray Hill, located at 222 East 40th street which is designed by one of my favorite architects (sic), Handel Architects.

222 East 40th Street

I'm glad to hear it won't shrink too much... 847 is very much on par with the other towers in the neighborhood. I was really disappointed to hear of the recently touted tower on Nassau Street that was reduced to just under 500 ft from a speculated over 800 and was bummed to hear that the Murray Street tower might go as low as 740 ft, so compared to that possibility this is pretty darn good news. Really interested in seeing renderings if there are some changes made to the wider top that I believe has been given unwarranted criticism.

Doesn't the rendering have a full height of 857ft? The revision to 845 that V_G just made confused me.

Sorry Booster!!

Yea if you look at the diagram it gives 2 figures. The 845' looks to be measured from the ground & 857' looks to be measured below ground?? I dunno.

From the diagram, the widening of the "flute" at the top appears much more constrained and less dramatic than the first renders -- more upward than outward. Which is great news from where I'm standing.
