I was sceptical too, but then I realised that they want to make Nanning the most important China - ASEAN trade centre as Shenzhen and Shanghai do the rest of the world.. Also it's not so vulnerable to the western economical crisis at the moment..

I lived in Nanning from 2010-2012 and even though it is ASEAN this or gateway that, it is still a very provincial and extremely insular city. I can see them building one 300 meter tower but so many? I could be wrong though

I do agree with you it is provincial and insular city now, but I believe it's going to change, just look 5 years back and you'll see how much Nanning changed so far, after another 5-10 years Nanning will be on the map of China. Also it will be only 3 hours away from Guangzhou on CRH. I think they can afford to build as much as they can now, when they have money and construction still fairly cheap and wait for the demand (on this particular tower, many others are build by corporations, so I guess they do need that office space) I see it as an investment

I think because of the Vietnam War China had a huge fuss with Vietnam and some people today in China still thinks why their country should work with China.

Alleged SOM proposal. No sources, probably fake.

not 100% sure it's Baoneng, though..
Baoneng was mentioned by one of the forumers at gaoloumi here, now I started looking, couldn't find any source to prove it, but I found this http://www.nnwb.com/html/2013-10/17/content_46377.htm, so I guess we could open the thread, up to zorg then

also this http://www.tianyudc.com/News/news_info.asp?id=268 - SKYFAME GROUP

Apart those blueprints few posts above there were no news, first it's really out of place there, second they never promoted this tower at the site or anywhere else.. (also even gaoloumi members removed it from their list) so personally, I wouldn't bet that this tower would ever get built

^Look at the people standing on top of the stack. Giant stacks of blocks like this are usually used for testing the piles.
