indeed, that thin bottom looks weird. but still, this would be a nice addition to Chicagos skyline

Anchor tenant confirmed

Even more interesting because William Blair was originally supposed to move to River Point before the original proposal was put on-hold.

William Blair moving headquarters to new West Loop tower
By: Ryan Ori December 23, 2013

William Blair & Co. signed a letter of intent to anchor a proposed 53-story office tower along the Chicago River, the second big ground-up office project to get under way since the recession.

The investment firm is working to finalize a deal to move its headquarters to more than 300,000 square feet in the 1.2 million-square-foot tower at 150 N. Riverside Plaza planned by Chicago developer John O'Donnell, William Blair President and CEO John Ettelson confirmed today. Employees were informed this morning of the move planned for 2017.

Mr. O'Donnell plans to break ground next summer on the building, which will be just south of a 45-story high-rise being developed by Houston-based Interests L.P. William Blair expects to sign a 15-year lease for its space within the next two months, a move that could make it easier for Mr. O'Donnell to attract other tenants to the project.

It would be very average without the thin base. This is much more daring.
Anyway. Great news that an anchor tenant has been found. This tower will probably get the go ahead soon.

It's already got the go ahead and the developer sets groundbreaking for July first whether new tenants sign on or not.

A pair of new renderings were posted at Skyscraperpage. The design has changed:

Compare it to the previous design in the OP's first post. The two in that picture are the same design.

Progress on 150 N Riverside

Quote:
Construction barges are now a common sight along the banks of the Chicago River downtown, with three major towers underway soon, along with three blocks of Chicago Riverwalk construction. The latest of those towers is this 742-foot office building soon to be residing at 150 North Riverside Drive, right between the Boeing building and the also-under-construction River Point. Unlike its building buddy to the north, 150 N Riverside doesn't need to build a tunnel over the train tracks splitting through the site. Instead, the 1.2 million square foot tower was designed to have the smallest possible footprint so its foundation can fit right between the tracks and the edge of the river.

O'Donnell lands nearly $300 million construction loan for West Loop tower
By David Lee Matthews

After landing William Blair & Co. as his anchor tenant last year, developer John O'Donnell now has nearly $300 million in construction financing to build his planned riverfront office tower in the West Loop.

A group of lenders provided a $296 million loan to finance the 53-story, 1.2-million-square-foot office tower already under construction at 150 N. Riverside Plaza, according to RBS Citizens N.A., one of the lenders involved.

I really love the public space around the building too. It will afford good views for people to admire the building. Its a work of art after all... should have a forum for admiration.
