Likewise - add it to the bonkers list along with William Hague's call, after her death in 1997, for London's Heathrow Airport to be renamed after Princess Diana.

Note that only two of the six MPs who have signed this EDM are actually from Greater London.

An Early Day Motion carries no real weight and few are actually debated - it's just a parliamentary procedure for MPs to draw attention to a cause or event.

May I suggest as a compromise: "Elizabeth's Fleet line", or the contraction "Lizfleet line", or better "Fleet line".

You'd just call it the Elizabeth Jubilee line the Jubilee line. Given that the line colour is silver and opened in 1979/2000 (perhaps the JLE should have made the line gold, though obviously two years late to first open, two years early to be finished).

Perhaps one of the splits of the Northern line (or similar next new line) could be called the Elizabeth line, shortened to Liz line? We have the Victoria line after all.

Out of interest why is it the Jubilee line and why when extended did they not just keep the name Fleet Line?

Perhaps because finally it wasn't extended under Strand and Fleet street from Charing Cross to Ludgate Circus. As it goes through Waterloo and South Bank, it would be absurd to call it Fleet line.

The name was changed form Fleet to Jubilee in 1977 by the then mayor of London (who I think) was Horace Cutler for no apparent reason. the Fleet line had the colour grey on the maps which is almost silver and was under construction at the time of the silver jubilee but didn't open for another year or so after 1977.

Actually the only section of the Fleet line which was new build was the stretch from Baker Street to Charring Cross, the rest was a branch of the Bakerloo

Nearly true - the Fleet line was to be Orange and changed to grey/silver when the name changed.

Liz's Line or Beth Line. Think the Jubile line is the best but even that has been shortened to "The Jub"

Sure about that? I thought the colour was originally grey, small point though

As for what it's called now, I'm not a resident of the smoke but I know it as the jublee line.

Watched this earlier and found it entertaining viewing. I was particularly impressed with the section on Fulgence Bienvenüe' methods of constructing underground stations in waterlogged ground for the Paris Metro!

The show is still available on the Channel Five website for anyone else who's not seen it:
