Just a moderation note - please do NOT put too many YouTube videos in one post. It tends to result in a VERY slow load for most computers that don't have an attached nuclear reactor and 24 cores and more ram than 5 acres of fields full of sheep.

Line R1 is the busiest of Rodalies Renfe Barcelona.
Note that this is a summer afternoon, so the train gets overcrowded (just look at the number of people awaiting at the platform of each station, and note that the line runs along the beach nearly all of the time. Note also that the driver sighs when he sees the number of passengers awaiting at Montgat-Nord station), at a time at which, were this winter, that would be the counter-peak and the train would not run full (not empty either, this line is busy all year long).

Platform height is not the problem here (all platforms are of the standard Adif height, unlike on line R4 of the previous video).
But platform length at Arc de Triomf station (shared with lines R3 and R4) is a problem, it allows only 8-car trains, and this keeps 10-car trains away from this line.
That worsens the overcrowding at the peak hours. And in summer, the peak on this line lasts nearly all day...
This is the only rodalies line I've ridden, and I did from Caldes d'Estrac (at 34:00, IMO it should be renamed Caldes-Sant Vicenç) all the way to Sants (at 1:27:00). Fortunately I did so in winter, outside peak season, so it wasn't so crowded.

Upgrade works at Sant Celoni station have started.

Breaking news: construction of the new railway link to Barcelona Airport is to start next month, with an expected completion date in 2018. There were previous announcements but in the end nothing happened, so I hope this time is for real.

Is it for real or just an election stunt. Wasn't this train connection there anyway in the past?

Currently there's a surface single-track train connection only to Terminal 2, with trains every 30 minutes. This new project involves building a mostly underground double-track train connection with stations in both Terminal 1 and Terminal 2, allowing trains every 15 minutes.

The old line cannot be extended to Terminal 1 as its layout ends in Terminal 2, with tracks pointing in the opposite direction of Terminal 1.

The new line will have underground stations just below the terminal buildings, while the current surface station involves a 10 minute walk from Terminal 2.

No, this new project is only from Terminal 1 to Barcelona Passeig de Gràcia, every 15 min.
No station in Terminal 2!

Anyway all this is a pre-elections stunt.

No, they made clear a few months ago that the project included the station in Terminal 2. There was a proposal by the regional government to skip this station, but the Spanish government finally decided to include it.

The project is from Terminal 1 to El Prat de Llobregat station. From El Prat de Llobregat to Barcelona it will use the existing tracks.

Wether they made it clear or not and wethere there is a real intention or not is still... unclear.

With metro L9 reaching T1, I honestly don't see the point in this new line that will cost many millions, when other things are more needed.

Very difficult to make a tunnel under the main runway!

It is not going to be ready until 2020 or later...

If they really build it, which I highly doubt, it wouldn't be ready by 2020 anyway, the tunnel would be long and difficult.

And besides, it is NOT the most needed thing, when they have a metro line (L9) about to open which will connect twice with R2 (at Aeroport T2 and at El Prat de Llobregat).

I find this quite electoralist, but in the (to me) unlikely case it went ahead, I'd find it a white elephant.

Line S1 | Terrassa extension.

They are installing the signals at the entrances of the three new FGC stations at Terrassa.
Their names are: Vallparadís-Universitat, Terrassa-Estació del Nord (connection to Rodalies Renfe line R4 and regional rail), and Terrassa-Nacions Unides.

The opening of this new stretch is approaching.
No date yet, but it shouldn't take too long before they announce it.

The Sabadell extension (line S2) will still take at the very least a couple of years to be finished.

Line S1 | Terrassa extension.

The first train, a class 113 EMU, has entered the Terrassa-Can Roca depot on a test run.
The opening of the Terrassa extension comes closer and closer...
...yet still we have no official date.
