Shenzhen. Futian CBD and Lianhuashan Park

Shenzhen Concert Hall by Arata Isozaki. I'll post some more pictures of this one later. Definitely one of the more iconic and unique buildings in Shenzhen

Futian CBD

The elevated pedestrian path which goes from the Civic Center to Lianhuashan Park. It's not an ordinary walk but an entire pedestrian street with landscaping, greenery and spaces to relax and have rest. It gives a fairly good elevated angle to see the surrounding area too.

Entering Lianhuashan Park. It's an oasis of greenery and plants which is a great place to escape from the big city buzz. The reason why I went there, however, was not that. The park is, in fact, a big hill that provides a great elevated platform to observe the city and take some pictures

After this I'll post some views from the top of the Lianhuashan Park.

Shenzhen really looks exciting, even more with the addition of the new buildigns! I realize I need to spend more then just one day there, but I hope it's possible to see the most important parts in 2 days since there are not more time available during my Hong Kong trip.

Sorry to say that but 2 days is absolutely NOT enough. You need 5 days at the very, VERY, least. A week would be better but still not quite enough for a thorough exploration. Shenzhen may look somewhat small-ish on a map and its grid planning is very simplistic but it is a very big city. Bigger than pretty much anything outside Asia. It just... takes time to get from place to place because distances are long.

In either case, you'll certainly be able to feel what kind of city it is and if you'll really like you can always come back which is what I did this year and will do again next year.

Lianhuashan Park

Next are a few photos from Lianhuashan Park which is yet another good observation point

Something strange is going on. That is certainly not the smog or any kind of air pollution. Whatever it is it is approaching fast
image hosted on flickr

It was a very heavy rainstorm which continued for about 20 minutes
image hosted on flickr

A brief moment of what seemed to be the end of the rain...
image hosted on flickr

But minutes later this. And it's going my direction again. Seconds later after taking the picture it was pouring like there was no tomorrow

Lianhuashan Park

The good thing about heavy rain is that for some time after it stops it gives really clear view and excellent visibility

Shenzhen Civic Center. Another iconic and massive structure which is the main lowrise landmark of Futian CBD. Buildings in Shenzhen may not look as huge as they would look in other cities (in Europe or America) because of large open spaces and large scale of all other buildings but just to give an idea of the dimensions of this thing it is approximately 160x500m.

Lianhuashan Park

The last bit of photos from Lianhuashan Park

Excellence Century Plaza (green tinted towers). The taller tower is 280m high with 61 floors

A wider view

And even wider view with full view of the Civic Center. The 660m tall Ping An Center is rising over the right wing of the Civic Center

View towards Luohu. You can see KK100 and Shun Hing Square just behind it. Both are about 5km away from the photo location
