Original Shenzhen

I continue my walk along Jiabin Road towards Guomao metro station. The train passing on a bridge in a distance is going from the direction of Shenzhen Railway Station. Trains pass every few minutes and include CRH D trains between Shenzhen and Guangzhou as well as Hong Kong-Guangzhou trains and various other services. This is one of the spots to hear the incredible sound of the DF11 locomotives which sound like this

Cycling in Shenzhen seems to be popular. It is very interesting to observe the various poeple with various types of bicycles cycling for different purposes. From the poorest who cannot afford (or just want to save on) public transportation to those who are health conscious and do it as an exercise and a good habit. In this picture a woman cycles with her child

Dongmen Shopping street. The famous pedestrian shopping street packed with shops and people. I'm not a fan of crowded and excessively busy places (not least due to risk of pickpockets) so my visit to the place was rather brief. I just walked along quickly trying to 'escape' to some calmer place

Photos of suspected criminals (pickpockets?) in the area? I have heard about the risk of pickpockets in Shenzhen and other cities in China. Not sure how serious that is but last year during my visit to Shanghai I was targeted by a pickpocket in a somewhat unexpected location who tried to steal my mobile phone. I would imagine it is worth to be cautious in busy locations like this too. I tend to be extremely wary of pickpockets everywhere I travel (with an exception of Singapore perhaps). Not necessarily because I think there is a higher risk of loosing valuables/money but simply because loosing my passport or money/credit cards would be much more troublesome far away from home

When are you going to visit other regions of China?

Such as Beijing? Chongqing? Chengdu? Xi'an? Wuhan?

I don't know. But certainly no later than 2015.

Poly Theater

The next destination is the newly built commercial and shopping complex around Poly Theater near Houhai metro Station in Nanshan District.

This micro CBD is a great showcase of exceptionally well designed modern urban environment. It really does have that 'Singapore' feel about it.

It is definitely one of the best spots in Shenzhen for those who want to see some really well made urban stuff and perhaps have a little preview of what the nearby Qianhai Water City might be like on the street level (I guess).

I put a little map showing the location as Houhai and circled in red with other locations marked in blue

More views around the complex. The area essentially occupies a few blocks limited by Haide 1st Road, Haide 3rd Road, Houhaibin Road and Houhai Avenue measuring approximately 750x400 meters in dimensions.

The complex has two long ponds which are located at two sides of the complex. Each is about 500m long with surrounding areas made into narrow albeit very lovely public parks
