![]() ![]() These are 2 nice shots from the city. Here you can see that Rotterdam had a great skyline. The weather isn't that clear, but gives the right image. These are not mine pics but from 'Rotterdam Highrise': http://skyscrapercity.com/showthread.php?t=121695

Looks more like a North American/Australian city than a European city.

It's a very peculiar skyline. No natural highs whatsoever as the surrounding area is completely flat. Like in one of those aerial views, Rotterdam's main virtue, as a matter of fact, is its skyline. The town has (had) a highrise policy: wherever allowed and approved of by consensus, highrise should be built. So this built the skyline the town now has. Just 2 or 3 buildings which are superbly stunning and combined with dozens of unspectacular yet OK towers, the town reaches Europe's top5 I dare to type.

What I find a shame about Rotterdam's skyline is that most buildings are varieties of the boring shoebox-type. The Millennium tower (the Westin hotel) is a notable exception, but most of the Rotterdam highrises are cubic and flat-topped. It would have been nice to see more variety, like in Den Haag for instance where hardly any of the new highrises are square and bare... quite the contrary in fact (it's almost becoming a bit TOO extravagant in Den Haag, I think...!)

This is a city that is developing yet, as you can see at the pictures.
It hasn't that density yet, that NYC has. But I hope that that will change as soon as possible. But despite of that, you can make a good judgement of this city. So give your judgement by voting. Please vote! |
