Copenhagen has a system where the E-gates checks your boarding card before entering the security lines.

But now Norwegian has started to use 4 self service gates in pier A and SAS will start to use 7 self service gates at Pier B after this easter.

The link is only in Danish.

One interesting fact is that after 10 years of use the 99 check in machines is used by nearly 50% of the passengers.

The bag drop is also self service.

Săo Paulo Airport readies for ABC technology

Brazilian passengers from GRU Airport – Săo Paulo International Airport – in Guarulhos may soon be using automated border control (ABC) technology to pass through immigration. In August 2014, Terminals 2 and 3 in Guarulhos will receive the latest ABC technology, which will allow passengers to control their own immigration and emigration processes autonomously, without the need to interact directly with the Brazilian Federal Police, provided they have a Brazilian ePassport and are over 18 years of age.

ATATÜRK AIRPORT TO SHORTEN QUEUES FOR TURKISH CITIZENS

ISTANBUL – Turkish citizens who fly frequently will be spared long queues at passport control in Istanbul's main airport from the end of August when two automated kiosks will be installed enabling travellers to scan their biometric passports.

The number of kiosks at Ataturk airport will be increased to six in the next three months, according to Turkeys leading airport operator, TAV Holding, who aims to install 24 by the end of 2015. Finger print and face recognition technology will be added to the system in the future.

Both TAV Holding and airport security declined to comment on when the system will be available for foreign passengers. Initially the system will only be accessible for the estimated 10,000 Turkish citizens who travel frequently.

Passport control officers will not be working at the kiosks, the statement added.

Last week I checked in for Rio from Schiphol. First there was the selfcheck-in then self bagage service then scan my barcode for the gates to enter securityarea.

At the bagage selfservice was a long line but it went very quickly and it was very convinient. I notice on the other side of the bagage selfservice three old KLM groundcrews behind the check-in desk. They didnt look happy, might they think in the furture they dont have a check-in-desk-job anymore. There was no any passenger at the desk of the three old ladies.
