It looks very tall there! Despite my love for the previous design, I really like that actually!

It appears to go from being slightly rounded to square (sort of like an upside down version)

The base has also been tweaked (first few floors) so that it has more of a traditional and welcoming street presence!

Overall the design feels much more consistent since they added the larger block at the bottom, looks far less awkward, I like it!

This is just a placeholder. The design has not been finalized.

It's very hard to keep track of all the HY tower designs; would be helpful for someone at Related to comb through their site and remove all the outdated images, or maybe release a new official set. It wouldn't surprise me though if this was the most current 35 HY: it's still got the hotel cube at the base, which was a recent (and controversial!) addition, and it does appear slightly taller than what we've seen so far.

I've been advocating for a little more formal consistency between the towers for a long time, but this change would disappoint me. I thought the most recent version (square-to-round pillar with the hotel setback at the base) was pretty fantastic, and the roundness of it, while a little at odds with the other boxier towers, worked to give us the visual pivot point between the East-West and North-South axes that was part of the original design concept.

If it is the latest, I wonder what precipitate the change? Construction costs surely could have factored in, and maybe it occurred to them that it's very difficult to do interior decoration when your exterior walls all curve. Having to order a bunch of custom curving furniture might have been a sticking point for some potential buyers.

It is definitely squared in that picture. That would suck, as the previous design was the best design of the complex, imo.

It is New York, so a boring box wouldn't be unexpected.

NY has more innovative designs going up than any other US city or any other city in the world for that matter. As noted, this is not the design.

New Look: Revisions For 15 and 35 Hudson Yards, Inside The Shops, and Neiman Marcus
(read article in link)

http://www.newyorkyimby.com/2014/09/...rcus-more.html

Quote:
35 Hudson Yards has also been modified, with a curving facade tossed in favor of a bolder, rectilineal form. David Childs is designing, and the building will be the site’s second tallest — at least initially — rising approximately 1,000 feet.

Equinox will occupy the base of the building, which will include a 150-room hotel. One hundred condominiums will sit above, offering some of the best vantage points in the city, perched higher than any other residential proposal below 57th Street (or above Thames).

I can see this getting quite a bit of criticism, but I think that looks super dupa smart!

Has a very slightly tapered effect, I love how it's sort of framed by those edges which also taper towards the top!

The facade is very nice also, reminds me of the original WTC towers facade, and the extra detailing with that at the top finishes it off nicely!

Looks to be 1,100ft roughly too!

Also, is the Culture Tower a supertall now?

It looks like that Tianjin 117 tower except without the diamond on top

I'm not feeling it. The previous itineration was worlds better. Looking forward to more design changes as we move closer to construction for both 15 & 30. lol.

I miss the cylindrical design. We don't have many of those in Manhattan. That being said, this design still looks amazing, especially the facade. It almost looks like a twin tower with a different facade. 15 Hudson Yards has it worse. PANTS!

the base is much different this time:

Day time tender of the tower:

To me 35HY is a reference to that past of NY, 10 and 30HY express modern architecture and 15HY shows a peak into the future of architecture

It will look very good, but too much has changed and I miss the corset on the Culture Tower and the cylindrical turn of the top half of the Equinox. They still are including that wide base hotel addition. Sometimes it's best to leave things be, but lol I agree with V_G about looking forward to still further renditions. I guess I'll still squee with delight once they actually start rising, and it's not like the design changes in themselves(other than the fat base extension on Equinox which I will hate, hate, hate no end)are bad. But hopefully with the second half of the yard we'll get more adventurous. Like I said though, once these start rising and get glass I'll still probably be as excited as anyone!

So do I at times.

Mixed feelings about the redesigns, but at street level it looks truely amazing.

Agreed, but this is warming up on me a little bit. Still, I wouldn't be surprised to see another change.

Anyway, a new press kit had been updated and it says both 15 & 35 Hudson Yards are both slated to begin construction in the fall of 2014!
