I can see what they're aiming for. Those stone fenestrations aid the transition between the volumes, especially from the hard right angles to the curves of the uppermost floors. It worked really well in the original iteration, as you can see here:

My problem isn't the square-to-cylinder crown portion, it's the unimaginative, offset blocks of the lower floors.

I do think cladding it in high quality stone will make a huge difference... but even if this individual tower turns out beautifully, the HY as a collection is kind of a bonkers collage of shapes and textures.

Hahaha, well I had meant aesthetically, but in the more pragmatic sense, yes, this is almost undoubtedly true.

It's too bad. I loved that old design.

Site Photos Capture Construction Progress at Hudson Yards

Quote:
Across the street to the south is 35 Hudson Yards, slated to become the first Equinox-branded 200-room hotel, with office and retail spaces at the base and a residential component on the highest levels. Designed by Skidmore, Owings & Merrill LLP (SOM), the 300-metre building will be home to 135 luxury condominiums. The site where the tower is rising can be seen in the foreground of the picture below, where a red crane is currently assembling the tower's first floors.

They are busy installing the columns that will bring the rest of the tower site up to street level.

Recent Photos Show Hudson Yards Taking Shape

Quote:
Bordered by 10th Avenue, 11th Avenue, West 30th Street, and West 34th Street, the Eastern Yard is currently a web of cranes and steel. Recent photos depict the mesmerizing scene at the site of phase one, with nearly all of its buildings now under construction.

So did they settle on a design? Definitely like the redesign from the first post the best.
