Design change?

Edit notice that the bottom right has the same redesign.

The most damning evidence is the shadow. This is definitely post the setback design.
Where did this graph come from? I didn't see it on Related's website.

Thanks, VG. It seems that Related has clearly acquired the entire McD's site. I'll check on Acris.

That's interesting. The base in the pic certainly looks like the footprint (35 HY) in the diagram.

I'm just wondering what that slighty brown tinged building is next to the redesigned equinox? (to the right)

Good catch, Stig. That's the One Hudson Yards site that Related bought from Extell.

In fact, the placeholder looks like something that KPK designed for the site long ago.

Yea I was wondering about that too. Looks like they have it (Extell) 550-600 ft tall?

That's impossible though for a 1m sf tower. This must be a placeholder and not indicative of the actual design. This tower is as thin as the Equinox Tower, has about the same sf, yet it's half the height. Presumably, they don't want to detract from the E-Tower.

Of course you can't, they're not boring boxes.

I know that it's unlikely, but I still hope that they stay close to the original trussed Kohn Pederson Fox design for Extell. That understated building was the best looking of the bunch.

Speaking of understated: if that is the new design for the E tower, it looks great.

More indication that the tower really has been redesigned:

(respectfully snatched from VerticalGotham's post on the Hudson Yards North Tower thread. See also the official announcement on the HY Facebook page. More projects should have a page like that, btw!)

Tall Cake, Short Break: Celebrating Year One of Hudson Yards Project
http://chelseanow.com/2013/12/tall-c...yards-project/

This should move to the supertall thread.

Quote:
In addition to 10 Hudson Yards, the development will eventually feature a second, 80-story office tower and two residential towers that will reach 70 and 79 stories
70 Stories @ 870ft = 15 Hudson Yards (Culture Tower)

And

79 Stories @ 1,000ft = 35 Hudson Yards (Equinox)

Avg ceiling heights in NYC is 9 to 10ft hight. This should have at least aprox 12 ft high ceilings which would be a dream to have.

This was a much more aesthetically pleasing design with the setbacks. The developer took this project from a great design level to a passably decent one.

I much prefer this redesign, I wasn't overly fond of the previous as it looked seriously out of proportion at certain angles, this design is curvy and different, but elegant, simple and doesn't scream attention

Good to see a height increase as well! Quite funny seeing as someone the other week was begging for a height increase on this to 1,000ft

Are there many other "round" towers in NY?

Very good looking tower and a great addition to the skyline.

not many, none that I can think of off the top of my head. I wouldn't described this tower as round or twist. More like 'drape'
