Like the WTC. One tower gets all the publicity, all the prestige and notice. And somehow, secretly, another tower that nobody knew about becomes the most beautiful thing in the entire area.

Just goes to show: Good design beats everything, including height.

I liked the setbacks of the original but the new render has really grown on me... love the way it rises from rectangular to cylindrical and the illusion of twisting. That it was increased in height to 1,000 ft. seals it for me. I love the contrast with the Culture Tower and its corset and four tubed industrial style top. With improvements in the design of 50 and 55 Hudson just outside the main HY area the results overall will look magnificent in the skyline!

Looks like this tower has had a very slight design change, it's much whiter, and has a nicely topped off crown!
I can safely say this is my favourite tower of the Hudson Yards so far

This tower looks huge in almost all renderings, has to be over 1000 ft. Gorgeous tower.

Is it a new crown?. Here's an older rendering. I dunno.

It looks like the glass in between the metal fins at the top has been removed in the new remder

Yea, that is interesting. If that's the case I like it. That would mean they are planning to put some kind of outside roof deck on top.

I like the old a little better

The base on the new one doesn't go with the building.

Why do US buildings always end up worse than they are originally planned? These architects need to be fired.

I think the base will play better in other renders... I have to see it in more detail, different angles. It still will look great. Looking at the original 55 Hudson though I liked it a lot better than what it looks like now, just boxy and undistinguished. Definitely Related better not drop the ball with a design that doesn't fit the soaring excitement Hudson Yards is supposed to represent.

I'd narrow that to office buildings. 111 57th is an unbelievable improvement. This tower became less unique but it is now in the supertall forum after all.

looks to be about 1150 in that picture, the North Tower is 1227' to the top of the roof and this is not far off

I seem to be the only one loving the changes they;''re making to this tower, it's definetly my favourite so far in the complex

Also is it just me or is based on the previous render and model, this tower seem to be the signature tower of the complex? It just seems to stand out with it being surrounded by much smaller buildings with much more space around it

For me, the spiraling of the facade was the coolest component, so I'm a bit disappointed by the change. It smacks of value engineering. But Robert's right, it's probably not final anyway.

As for this being the signature tower, I really think it's all going to depend on your viewing angle. Even with the height reduction, 30 HY is still structurally massive. It will command the view from most eastern vantages.

I agree. I don't like that base either, allthough that part seems to be undefined. I can't believe it will be that open as is shown in that render

So they keep redesigning this but that hideous Culture Tower remains unchanged?

The Culture Tower is considered hideous by only a tiny minority. It's very unique and compelling, and among the best parts of the first phase.

55 Hudson REALLY has been redone for the worse. The original rendering with the lattices were the best, the recent re-design from a few months ago wasn't great but their was still a real visual appeal, the unique roof was growing on me. This one... I just don't get. The more I see it looks just like a slightly nicer box we could see anywhere in Manhattan. Brookfield seems to have misplaced a tower within HY, lol! Why even go such a mediocre route? Early renditions of 50 Hudson that were shown a few months back were also not promising, a hulking behemoth with setbacks.

The Equinox Tower looks better without the base but just about all towers built have some sort of base... even an architectural marvel like Frank Gehry's wavy tower on Spruce Street have a several story base (actually kind of a disappointing, pedestrian one that's been the only criticized part of that new Downtown icon). Hopefully the final design will include a more fitting one .. even the Culture Tower has one on the side it looks from the recent rendition.

I'd rather have a simple box than a set of smoke stacks with a jock strap. The whole approach of designing the ugliest possible tower just to get people talking about it is one of the biggest failings of modern architecture.

I agree, 35 Hudson has seen the most changes especially at this stage of the process since its initial renderings and is definitely a work in progress and most likely not final.

What we know is that we can say itís a safe bet that the design will be a cylinder and it seems what they are deciding is if itís going to be a straight up from ground to top cylinder design or one that tapers a bit which is the latest itineration.

I do like how it tapers a bit now but the base is what Iím not enthralled about and since itís the newest element of the design, I expect that part that will be modified as we get closer to vertical construction.

I feel they are experimenting with the look at this stage of the game to discover what direction they will go design wise.

So if there will be any changes with this one imo, it will definitely be with the base and if they decide to go with a tapered look.
