The Kavanagh Building is one of the best early skyscrapers anywhere.

I always thought UT Tower was taller than the Texas Capitol.

I did too. I also find it weird that it would be one foot shorter. I wonder if there used to be a law prohibiting building taller than the capitol. It seems plausible, considering the laws concerning views of the capitol that persist to this day.

the oldest 100 meters/328ft skyscraper in the world is
the Park Row Building. year 1899

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Park_Row_Building
with 391 feet (119 m)

Location 15 Park Row
Manhattan, New York City
Built 1896-99
Architect R. H. Robertson
__________
it was the tallest commercial building in the world from 1899 until 1908

yes older and taller than the FLATIRON Manhattan
The FLATIRON was never the tallest in the world.....the FLATIRON is really Unfairly considered overrated.....and the Park Row Building is Inequitably underestimated underrated.
because the Park Row Building is older and taller.

Man the Potter Building is gorgeous, especially in person. I didn't know it was that old!

Here's Minneapolis first "skyscraper" - when considering the sky surrounding it was significantly lower at the time, it certainly did scrape (or blunt-force hammer) the sky.

Lumber Exchange Building
1886 (year of completion)
50.3 meters (skyscraperpage.com/diagrams)
42.67 meters to the original roof http://www.emporis.com/buildings/122...eapolis-mn-usa

Also, according to Emporis, "The building is the oldest outside of New York City with 12 or more floors." I had no idea. Not sure if that means at the time it was built or still currently standing.

They added two floors decades later - with great sensitivity to the original design... or wait, no, I mean with "whatever, no one will notice because it's on the top" sensitivity to the original design.
