It is the new subway trains which allow more places and thus more passengers.
To the left, armchairs allow to remain standing and to settle against.

French to study rubber-tyred metro train adhesion
Wednesday, November 26, 2014

SIEMENS and Tisséo, the operator of the VAL light metro in Toulouse, are to conduct a three-year study of the adhesion of rubber-tyred metro trains with a view to improving their safety

VAL trains run on metal or concrete guideways, and the study will identify and characterise the phenomena which cause adhesion failure and its connection with braking. The research will be undertaken in cooperation with the French Institute of Science and Transport Technology, Planning and Networks (Ifsttar) and the Ease laboratory.

The VAL automatic rubber-tyred metro system was originally developed by the French company Matra, which was taken over by Siemens. There are VAL light metros in several French cities, as well as Turin, Italy, Taipei, Taiwan, Chicago O'Hare International Airport, and Uijeongbu, Korea

Congratulations to Toulouse, the second European city to open an airport rail link this month (Sofia being the first).

Helsinki is next.

Toulouse develops plans for third metro line
Friday, July 10, 2015

THE mayor of Toulouse Mr Jean-Luc Moudenc announced a timetable for the planning and construction of the city's third metro line on July 7

The project has been dubbed Toulouse Aerospace Express (TAE) because it will link Matabiau station and the city centre with the Colomiers Airbus factory and the planned aerospace research and technology park at Montaudran, serving an area where 48% of the city's jobs are located.

According to the timeline, a preferred route will be announced in December and this will be followed by preliminary studies on the chosen alignment next year. More detailed studies and a public inquiry are scheduled for 2017 onwards, with the aim of launching construction in 2019. The line would open in 2024 and initial estimates suggest ridership would be around 200,000 passengers per day

The sole new line project outside Paris for decades to come. A lot of forumers are septic about the first published plans, three of them avoid city centre. Let's hope they'll choose the first alternative ("dense districts" plan) instead of feeding northern outskirts already served by the ligne B...

3) urban renewal anticipation
4) connected transport network (involving more connections with rail network)

To be continued...
