Construction halted over cost overruns: http://ny.curbed.com/archives/2014/0...alls_again.php

It may not go much further until Forest City and Skanska get their act together...

Well, they kind of have to get it together. Because of the agreements they made with the community, I think they have to begin construction on so many units or the developer will begin to be fined everyday that work is delayed...

That's a shame really. The building looks pretty good so far.

Will the drama at Atlantic Yards ever end?

Forest City Sues Skanska Over Atlantic Yards Tower B2

Quote:
Last week, Skanska issued a Stop Work Order at Atlantic Yards's first residential tower, the modular B2, citing a dispute over cost overruns, and now developer Forest City Ratner has fired back with a lawsuit. Skanska claimed that the extra costs came because the design for the mods was faulty, but Forest City said that Skanska agreed to a "fixed price" and the problems were the fault of Skanska's own "failures and missteps," which are detailed in the lawsuit. The suit was filed today in New York State Supreme Court, and it asks the court to declare the Stop Work Order void.

While Forest City and Skanska duke it out over the fist tower at Pacific Park nee Atlantic Yards, work on the second tower is moving forward:

Permits Filed: 535 Carlton Avenue, Pacific Park

Quote:
COOKFOX has filed a new building permit for 535 Carlton Avenue, the next of the 15 buildings that will eventually rise at Pacific Park, né Atlantic Yards. The application is for a structure at the corner of Carlton and Dean, on terra firma, not the deck between Atlantic and Pacific. All of the 298 apartments will be let at below-market rates, with maximum household incomes ranging from $48,000 to $104,000 annually.

The building will rise 19 stories – tall for this corner of Downtown Brooklyn, but the shortest building in the complex once known as Atlantic Yards. Its total construction area will be 364,000 square feet, per the application, with a bit more than 275,000 square feet set aside for residential use, working out to average unit sizes of 925 square feet – generous, family-sized apartments, bigger than most new rentals in Brooklyn.

In contrast to the tower now rising — once known as B2 – 535 Carlton will be built using conventional rather than module construction techniques.

Skanska terminates B2 construction contract

Quote:
Skanska USA Building cancelled its contract for Forest City Ratner’s Pacific Park, formerly known as Atlantic Yards, in the latest chapter in an ongoing legal tussle between the joint venture partners on Tuesday. “We believe in modular and have worked tireless to get B2 back on track since Skanska blindsided us by ceasing construction and putting 157 workers on the street last month,” MaryAnne Gilmartin, president and CEO of Forest City Ratner, said in an emailed statement. “Skanska has responded with inaction and inertia, trying to leverage us financially by stonewalling B2’s progress.” Now that Skanska is no longer the contractor on the project, FCR is free to hire another company to usher the project through to completion, Crain’s reported. But because the Swedish firm still partially controls the Brooklyn Navy Yard modular facility making the B2 units, the matter is complicated. Both sides also headed to state Supreme Court today over allegations over who was at fault for delays and cost overruns at the 363-unit building dubbed B2 BKLYN. A state court judge denied Forest City’s request that the shuttered factory be reopened, but ordered board members of the modular company FC+Skanska Modular to determine how the facility will now be run.

so the other towers built on the deck are moving along, while the modular towers around the barclay's center are indefinitely on hold?

The problem was with the modular tower so everything else is proceeding as scheduled. Unless they can sort out the issues with B2 it may have to be dismantled and redesigned as a more conventional tower. Work on the other towers is in the early stages.

Forest City Ratner to buy out Skanska's interests at Pacific Park.

Construction of the troubled modular B2 would continue after deal is approved by judge hearing the case...
