The Freedom Tower (some would call it the Fraud 'em Tower) with it's wedge of light design may have been forgotten, but the silly idea of leaving the "sacred grounds" as hollow as the terrorists had wanted it is being built.

Never say never.

I hope the sky garden is built.

Quick edit - thanks ZZ-II - glad to see someone agree with my view!

I think that the sky garden will actually be a big part of their pitch to the residents around the building. It is supposed to be a free park right?

Yes, it will be a public park with public restrooms as well.

What more could the NIMBY's want?

If I had a major skyscraper proposed near me, I would be celebrating.

Those annoying NIMBY's should not have any say in this development because this tower is proposed for the business district, not some distant neighborhood in Fishtown!

Exactly!! Thats how any building like that should be, NIMBY's have no say if it's in the business district.

NIMBYS

We have them in my neighborhood, too - the NIMBYs. University of Pennsylvania (UPenn) owns a large lot at the corner of Pine St. and 40th, they want to build a 12 story hotel - only 12 stories! for cryin' out loud -because there is a shortage of hotels in a square mile that contains UPenn, Drexel, USP, Veterans Hospital, Children's Hospital, the new Perelman Cancer Research Center and UPenn Medical complex. The hotel is to managed by Hilton ... and designed to be attractive and upscale. But some people declare this is a residential area of mostly 3 story Victorian houses (not true, some on Pine St. are 4 stories, and the neighborhood is dotted with 6, 8, and 10 story apartment houses).

This is a city, afterall. This is not the suburbs.

A nice 12 story building is not a skyscraper whatsoever!

They 'd better rent 12 floors in the new tower and make that a hotel.

Only if it gets the approval - all we can do now is patiently wait and hope!

Philadelphia: http://skyscraperpage.com/diagrams/?cityID=326 (never knew those blue top 3 skyscrapers were so tiny.)

Wow, look out Philadelphia!

The spire just surpasses the Sears Tower!

Yeh, some people are a bit picky.

Overall, I love this building - I am more than certain that a redesign will happen when this project gets rollin' along.
