For some reason everyone wants some Shanghai tower for every proposed supertall and they just don't understand that organic structures like that clash with traditionalist American architecture.
My guess is because it's designed by Foster, and although Foster has made boxes in the past, it isn't his breadwinning design. The tower is starting to win me over, but I can see where others are coming from.

I don't get it.

Why was this thread - for a totally new building, the Comcast Innovation and Technology Center (CITC) - combined with the thread for the old American Commerce Center (ACC)?

I think it's very confusing.

The old ACC is dead.

The new CITC lives!

You're right! It's as if Wilshire Grand and Wells Fargo in Minneapolis had a baby.

Worst thing about this tower might be the slightly off proportions. They could do a bit more to make it streamlined and "tall" looking. Other than that I'm excited for Philadelphia.
To quote Robert Venturi, "less is a bore!" I'm not saying we need a bunch of modern buildings that clash which one another, but something approaching an exciting design would be welcome.

RW just really doesn't care for Chicago.

Although, the way things are going with the latest tech boom and the direction all the wealth is flowing, I can see the argument for SF in the top 3. But then I'm biased.

No, Chicago is either the 2nd or 3rd city of America. 2nd by financial might and 3rd by economic size and population. It's a wonderful city. I'm not sure why certain forumers don't like it. As an American, I feel incredibly happy when any city in this country prospers.

I prefer to split cities based on the area of influence they have. Chicago's main advantage is that there is no other major city in the Midwest that possesses enough economic/academic/artistic/cultural/social/political might to rival it. Detroit and Chicago at one point were major nodes in the Midwest. With the fall of Detroit, Chicago has solidified its hold on a region with 46,662,180 people. Add in the Plains states that rely on Chicago mercantile exchanges, financial firms and corporate expertise and Chicago is the supreme city of another 20,885,710 people. That's 67,547,890. Then you have Detroit and Minneapolis a step below Chicago and then Cleveland, Indianapolis, St. Louis another notch below, etc.

San Francisco doesn't have that reach. San Francisco isn't even the biggest metro area in California. San Francisco's influence is really only Northern California and maybe extreme Southern Oregon. Then it has to deal with Seattle and Los Angeles. So San Francisco's supremacy is only over maybe 16,000,000 people. Even Philadelphia has more people in its zone of influence (Pennsylvania and Southern Jersey) with around 17,000,000 (and it's getting squeezed by two rapidly growing centers: New York and Washington

So for me San Francisco is probably closer to 7 or 8 to be honest, though in international realms, it's a solid 4th behind New York, Washington and Miami.
