Examples of bad spires to me are on top of the Willis tower and John Hancock Center.
They don't count as part of the building though, and they are considered pretty iconic.

The reason they don't count is because they aren't considered spires, they are antennas! It's ironic how the one on WTC1 looks exactly the same but it's considered a spire?? It doesn't look any better than the ones on the Willis Tower.

The spire on 1 WTC was planned from the start unlike pure antennas on other towers. That's why it counts on 1 WTC.

Right, but it was stripped and cheapened. It doesn't count, IMO.

There should be a rule against the spire vs roof height discussion. It's in every thread ever.

You might be right about that, but since it is in every thread, it is obviously a big deal. I think some talk on the subject should be allowed on any thread, but if the thread starts to become derailed, additional talk can be redirected to the appropriate threads.

Isn't "Comcast Innovation and Technology Center" an oxymoron?

Great progress! Is the rebar in the pictures above directly over where the tower will be built?

No.

However, a more accurate and precise title would be ... " The Comcast Obscene Profits and Bad Customer Service Tower."

No, it's because they have a state-sanctioned regional monopoly over service.

CITC's Concrete Mega-Pour Scheduled

Quote:
Last time we checked in with the Comcast Innovation and Technology Center, it was just one giant hole in the ground. Well, that hole is actually a little deeper and about to be filled with 4,000 cubic yards of concrete that will make up the foundation for Philly's soon-to-be-tallest building. To top it off (or bottom it out?), this will be the largest concrete pour in the history of Philadelphia. Bob Fernandez of The Inquirer reports that 50 trucks making a total 400 deliveries starting Friday at midnight. Once complete, the Foster+Partners-designed CITC will be tallest buiding in the United States outside of New York and Chicago.

From The Inquirer:

Quote:
"Prep work will begin at the construction site at midnight Friday and the concrete pouring will begin at 2 a.m. The 1800 block of Arch Street is expected to be closed for the duration of the concrete pour. That stretch is planned to reopen at 5 p.m. Saturday, officials said."
