No worries. I think development news in the city gets overshadowed by NYC. There are also other large, long-term plans for the area: Schuylkill Yards and the 30th St. Station District.

These are some of the most exciting times for architecture fans for Philly in over a generation. So much construction, so many projects. People from distant places are only seeing this supertall skyscraper, but the fact is there are over a dozen other highrise and skyscraper height buildings going up including a 51 story luxury hotel and some very glassy highrise apartment buildings.

In the photos above you can see New Jersey across the Delaware River, and how flat it is because geologically it is part of the Atlantic Coastal Plain. Just a few miles west of Philly begins the piedmont (or "foot hills") region of the Appalachians: the rolling hills of the "Pennsylvania Dutch" countryside.

I don't understand the dislike of this tower by some posters here. The cladding of this structure looks fantastic to me. Wait for the finish line. I believe it will be a great addition to Philly's skyline.

The cladding is fine. It's the atrocious upper 1/5th of the building that ruins it for me.

What's so atrocious about the top? I quite like the soaring shape, setbacks and Art-Deco-inspired arrangement. Though this tower would probably be better clad in stone/bricks than in glass.

Those photos above are fantastic. I really like the cladding. It looks good from the street level. I can't wait to see it finished. I grew up in south jersey so Philly was our closest big city.

It's gorgeous. The cladding adds a lot of beauty and it fits in with the surrounding buildings.

The cladding looks amazing. This will definitely enhance the Philly skYline. Any hisses when it will be topped out?

Cladding materials are so nice in general these days it's hard to build a really bad looking skyscraper, unlike say the mid-20th century. CI&TC isn't nearly as handsome a composition as Philly's other Comcast tower, but it isn't terrible, and the sleek surfaces should compensate significantly for any deficits in overall composition.

I'm from South Jersey too this and a.c. Were the closet cities to me I remember going to the gallery mall in downtown philly when I was young and looking up at the skyscrapers I was always fascinated by them but this new comcast center is fugly imo only the cladding is nice in my eyes but I have yet to see it in person up close and personal so I will wait until it's finished to really judge it. The thing is if it just stayed like the width it is now all the way up then add that stupid spire at about or a little above the other comcast building tht would make a great looking box that id take over this crap any day

From what we see until now it's looking great. But look at this. This side is ok.

But this is what people are talking about. The spire part is totally out of place ans indeed ruining the building. That's my opinion btw.

^ Maybe the top will be better than the rendering. Weird angle or perspective on the rendering? Looks a little odd doesn't it.

The spire doesn't fit there IMO.

The angle from its reverse side looks far superior, and this explains why I think it is out of place..

I think Philly has one of the most "sexiest" skylines on the East coast and not so "flat" and "square" as L.A. I think L.A needs to end the "flat roof" restriction to give more variety to the city.
