This tower adding to the bulk of the central skyline and FMC across the river adding length, as well as a prominent second cluster, has elevated Philly to one of my top 5 favorite skylines in the US.

Yes Philly has a fine skyline, but this new CTC building is a little underwhelming I'm afraid. It looks good from the west - the Spring Garden Bridge or the South Street Bridge (both spanning the Schuykill River) but from the east it looks blah. It's not impressive at all from I-95 for example. A couple of new skyscrapers not as tall like the 49 story FMC tower and the new 50 story W/Element hotel will make as much an impact that this.

funny, I see it precisely the opposite way; it is easily as dominant as the most dominant structure on the skyline (Comcast) from any angle with the possible exception of dead east as it's mostly blocked by Comcast, but soon enough the lantern will peek even above that which I believe will raise its status to king of the heap even from that vantage point. I love FMC & the renderings of the W look fantastic as well but when all three are complete to even make that side-by-side comparison I believe CTC will easily reign supreme, though FMC will for the foreseeable future continue to enjoy it's stand alone status which gives it obvious advantages.

I haven't seen any status updates, so below are some links. To sum up, some cracks in the steel have been found and inspections are supposed to take one month (from the end of August). These cracks are not rare, but also not common. However, the schedule remains unchanged and the tower is still on track to be completed by Spring 2018.

I fear that this is going to do the same as Wilshire Grand here in LA: that little spike will claim the tallest spot without actually ruling the skyline... Philly needs an supertall more than before I say.

I think a lot of people see it that way, but it's not exactly a little spike or needle like most spires, it actually has some decent diameter to it if you look at the renderings. Certainly it's not going to be confused with roof-height but by the same token I think it will lend more substance than typical spires, particularly when it's lit up. Time will tell.

By the way I think the Wilshire is the sharpest one of the 3 going up outside NY & Chicago notwithstanding its spire. It's just a cool ass building from all angles, what a huge impact on the skyline
