Some buildings look taller than its actual height and some looks shorter. This building seems like it will look shorter even when it is finished due to looking kind of "fat." I don't like the design of it.

It definitely depends on the angle that you’re viewing this building from. I do agree with you in that this building could have been way more imposing and had a more dramatic effect on the skyline. But it’s not bad in person. It’s going to look nice with the spire. The original concept for this tower was way nicer but that’s neither here nor there at this point.

They have this design element of the stainless steel (or some other shining metal) horizontal "bars" every 3 floors. In my opinion, that visually shortens the tower.

This thing is so fat, it visually shortens the tower. When seen up close, it dominates everything.

probably splitting hairs but is this 'lantern' really a spire? I'm not 100% sure what technically qualifies as a spire but in the renderings it appears larger than what I think of when I think of spires, they usually look more like antennas to me...

Edit: One Liberty for example

Cooling tower portion is quite large. Lantern rising now above it It's still a "spire" unless we wanna invent some new term...

I don't think we have to invent one, the builder already did that when calling it a lantern rather than a spire. Hadda google it to find the definition but a spire is "a tapering conical or pyramidal structure on the top of a building, typically a church tower". The lantern is certainly on the top of the CTC but it doesn't appear conical or pyramidal, rather it's boxy, wide & consistent in shape & diameter its entire stretch (unless that definition means tapering with respect to the building itself, though it's still not conical or pyramidal?). Like I said, probably splitting hairs given it's far smaller girth compared to the underlying structure so in the end people will see it as they see it, but spire just has a negative cheating for purposes of its contribution to the building's height connotation to it I don't really think applies to this, whatever it is.

Either way I love it & can't wait until they light it up for the world to see.
