Yes, that is the other side. It's makes it a much more intersting building, I think.

From ExMiami

"More details about Swire Properties’ massive One Brickell City Centre tower have emerged.

Swire is planning an 80th floor lounge and 79th floor restaurant in the tower, exMiami has learned.

One Brickell City Centre will include 120 hotel rooms, 256 residential units, 676,853 square feet of office space, and 66,915 sf of retail space. Levels 1 through 30 of the tower will be dedicated to office space. Residential units will start on the 34th floor through the 66th, and a hotel will occupy floors 70 to 78.

The plans require approval from the FAA. Dade County’s zoning height map permits a building of 1,010 on the property, while Swire has requested that the FAA permit a height above 1,100 feet.

The addition of the tower will bring the total size of Brickell City Centre to above 7 million square feet (including above grade parking and loading/circulation)"

That sounds good. Hope FAA approves this tower.

I feel like they won't approve the 1100 foot height but maybe I'm wrong who knows

I pulled this out of the Miami forum

I'm still looking through the whole thing. Goes before the planning board in the 15th by the way. Pages 153 to 156 have new renderings. Looks like there will be a cut out on the north facade as well lower on the building.

Page 253 has a nice rendering as well
Can you copy and paste the renderings into the thread? I don't like downloading files like this because my pictures take up so much room on my computer.

Amended by whom, the planning board only, the FAA? What do you think it all means, Dave?

We're not so sure yet. I think they are still negotiating this. A height of 989 feet would still give us a supertall by about 5 feet. There is reference to an 1100 feet tall amendment.

Also, it appears the top 50 feet or so of this will be mechanical suite only. Sometimes when listing building heights in public documents, the estimated height is through the highest occupied floor of the building… in this case, the hotel penthouse. So if the document is saying 989' now, I think it'll actually come out closer to 1,050 feet. Either way, very impressive addition for Miami if the board approves it.

Yes, I know, but this one you quoted is bigger.

This rendering shows a completed Brickell CityCentre with what will probably be our first supertall - One Brickell CityCentre. Other tall buildings will also have been completed that are not depicted in this rendering.

It would be because of the proximity of MIA to downtown Miami. To answer your question, the United States has a ton of air traffic above it, all over.

So do a lot of countries and cities with supertall buildings, the airport isn't that close to the city.

MIA is 8 miles away from downtown. Compare that to LAX (16 miles), O'Hare (10 miles), Denver (25 miles).

If O'Hare is 10 miles and Sears Tower is 1730 structural feet then 1102 feet should be fine at 8 miles, Newark airport is not that far from NY and 1WTC rises 1780 feet to the top of the pole.

Just don't be an idiot and drive a plane into the building, pretty simple.
