51-Story Tower at 5 Beekman Street Close to Topping Out

Quote:
The (dull, glassy) condo tower that's currently rising at 5 Beekman Street adjacent to the (beautiful, otherworldly) nineteenth-century office building, Temple Court, is very close to topping out, with the final four floors of mechanicals currently under construction, YIMBY reports.

Once the mechanical floors are complete, work will begin on the building's roof, which prominently features two parapets in homage to the roof of neighboring Temple Court. That building is currently undergoing a difficult conversion into a 287-room luxury hotel. The tower is expected to be completed in 2016, while the hotel will open later this year.

I know they still have the crown/top to go, but it is amazing that a building of this size that would completely tower over most cities looks so small in the city. When I run or walk the city, I love to find these buildings (especially the temple court side) to see them in detail. They get swallowed by the bigger buildings. From some vantage points you won't even see this because of 8 spruce.

I still can't make up my mind as to whether I hate this buildings, or think that it's alright/a little interesting.

Just a note: The Building in the middle of the last pic is the 119m tall Park Row Building build from 1896-1899. It's the oldest 100m+ Highrise in the world which is still standing
