I actually really like this building. It's different and complements the current buildings in that area without being too garish. I'm still on the fence about the two spires but I'm choosing to be optimistic.

I actually think it looks pretty good for an unexpected 200M. It's nothing great but pretty nice still. Can't wait to see that crown lit up at night.

I guess the two spires will also fit in with the old mid-rise tower across the street.

Is there any street-visible progress on the old building restoration?

That's my problem with the spires. First, there's no need to reference the original building. The Hearst Tower doesn't reference the building it's built on top of and the contrast is marvelous. Second, the addition is an entirely different style than the original building. So much so that peaked spires/roofs are completely at odds with the bulk of the tower (but are of course unavoidable because they're on top).

If they felt that referencing the original building through spires was important, they should've built an addition in a style that supported them... hell, they could've built it with neoclassical stylings and clad it in red brick. Otherwise, better to leave them off.

I think the spires add something positive to the towers. Without them it's just a box like there are hundreds in New York.

It's also a nice reference to the building next to it. Though I'd like to have seen the spires a bit more detailled. Maybe with a roof on them in stead of being open.

Perfect. Lose the retarded spires and you have a wonderfully modernist tower.

So he decided to add the worst designed spires ever.

I wish people would stop saying this. There are just as many art deco buildings in NY as there are boxes. Just look at Google Earth and you'll see.

It's so good until you get to the top. If it stays fine but it will take from a nice addition because it just looks so awkward with that approach for having a spired top.
