Bilbao somewhat emulated Washington (elegant vaults) and Paris (distinctive entrance structures).

Bilbao city was not ugly, and now is more, more beautiful.
And its metro is one of the most beautiful in the world!

Absolutely cool and futuristic looking! Everything else except those signs that show when the trains arrives. Those look a bit outdated, but maybe still work just fine.

I've always loved the sound Bilbao metro trainsets make when resuming departure.

I live in Bilbao and in the past the city was hideous because of the factories, pollution,... However, nowadays the turism is becoming popular due to the superb change and it is the BEST CITY IN THE WORLD (Bilbao´s people we are always boasting, in a good way ha?). Bye

What can I say, Norman Foster is a genius. Everything he touches becomes a work or art.

Yes... the fosteritos are like the modern version of those Paris entrances (both are great though).

Btw... I like the entrances of the metro in Valencia as well.

I don't know if it's exclusive to the Bilbao Metro but I love the idea of how the poles to hold on to, inside the carriages, are split into three different parts in the middle. This way they can accommodate 3x as many hands.

Anyone have any pictures of what I'm talking about?

I was in Bilbao last year and was incredibly impressed by the strides that the city has made to improve the urban environment.

- The metro is quick, clean and efficient, not to mention quite stunning!!

- Guggenheim is an amazing structure, which has put Bilbao on the map.

- Many of the bridges crossing the main river are interesting. Nice blend of the old and the new.

- Light train system passing through the city. Again modern, elegant and efficient.

Having said all this, the outskirts of Bilbao are quite ugly and it still has the feel of an industrial city. The old quarter is very pretty and the atmosphere at night is amazing!! Great city and I think it will get even better in the next 10 years.
