Really impressive
Indeed, Bilbao recently surprised me with its incredibly sustainable modal share. Only 10% of the trips are made by car!

It seems, these statistics concern only Bilbao City (353 000 hab.), very high density place, but not the whole urban area (around 1.000.000 hab)
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bilbao

https://maps.google.fr/?ll=43.262144...31629&t=h&z=16 (use also street view, the yellow little guy )

I'm afraid, with developpement of highways and new boroughs far from Bibao city centre, the global modal sharing would be not so good for walking ?

But thanks for the EPOMM source

Approved design of the moveable bridge that will span the estuary of Bilbao and that will allow the trams to connect Leioa with the left bank of the river, as a part of a new tramway line. Its construction is expected to start at some point next year.

It seems as if no piece of structure was given the short end of the stick in designing the Bilbao Metro. Even the elevators from the street look attractive. Couldn't find a picture of them online, so I used a link from Google Maps: https://www.google.com/maps/preview#....9240616&fid=5

If I'm not mistaken, metro stations were designed by Norman Foster. What nasty design

It is also unparisianly clean and unlondonly reliable. Only some of the interior design elements in the trains can be criticized.

The most beautiful are Moscow and Stockholm. Bilbao's metro is on the same level as Paris in terms of beauty.

Could you show me exactly the pics I can see the beauty.

I disagree. It's impossible compared two very different systems like Bilbao and Paris.

Bilbao metro is very modern system. Its stations and trains have a simple but elegant style and they are very different from a beautiful but old metro system like Paris.

Bilbao in terms of beauty can be compared with others modern style systems like Munich, Lyon, Turin or Seville.

I suggest to the Bilbao forumers to post a photo trip, station by station, of their metro to show how beautiful it is.

Well, have you seen pictures of Stockholm metro? That's the beauty. I'm not even talking about my home city, it's metro beauty has become truly world class.

Video of Ibarbengoa-Getxo metro station on Line 1, uploaded in Youtube in April 2013. This infill station between Bidezabal and Berango stations is ready, but it is unknown when it will be opened. Presumbambly some time next year:

You must be joking, they are far from Moscow or Piter's metro.

The only truly secure system is one that is powered off, cast in a block of concrete and sealed in a lead-lined room with armed guards - and even then I have my doubts. Gene Spafford.
I am Basque, not Russian, the "Siberia" thing is a joke.
