Status - Approved, Construction will begin soon

Corridor 1 (west-east): Airport to Narengi via Jalukbari, Bharalumukh, Fancy Bazar, Chandmari and Noonmati

Corridor 2 (center-south east): Paltan Bazar to Khanapara via, Ulubari, Bhagagarh, Ganeshguri and Dispur

64.50 km and 56.30 km will be covered in the first and second phase respectively, while in the third phase 75.50 km will be covered.

Assam Cabinet Approves Rs 18,020 cr 61.4 km Guwahati Metro

The 203-kilometre Metro corridor in Guwahati will be completed in three phases. The Phase I of the project will cover a length 61.4 kilometres, with a total of 54 stations. It will have four corridors: Dharapur-Narangi (elevated), M.G. Road to Khanapara (underground), Jalukbari to Khanapara (elevated) and ISBT to Paltanbazar (elevated).

The estimated projected cost including land is 18,020 crore rupees. The operation and maintenance of the project will be looked after by GMRCL, a company owned by the Assam Government.

As per the details available, Phase 1 of the project consists of 4 lines with 54 stations and all trains will initially run in a 3-coach configuration with a capacity of up to 975 passengers.
Line 1: Dharapur to Narangi (elevated), 22.6 km with 22 stations
Line 2: MG Road to Khanapara (underground), 10 km with 10 stations
Line 3: Jalukbari to Khanapara (elevated), 19.4 km with 14 stations
Line 4: ISBT to Paltan Bazar (elevated), 9.4 km with 8 stations

The foundation stone was laid last February but there were issues with funding since JICA refused to loan money for this project so work couldnt start yet. Hopefully funding issues get sorted and work begins by next year.

I think Guwahati will be the 16th Indian city to get a heavy rail metro system. Hopefully the momentum carries on
